My Mum's uncle was a merchant seaman and took me down to the engine room of one of the ships. There was a meter long ring spanner clamped to the wall.
It was for tightening the big ends periodically. You used a sledge hammer on the end of it.

Yeah was going to say, isn't this the sort of thing that powers massive cruise liners etc?

They only churn a couple of revs a minute, but the torque is crazy.

i wanna see the turbo off one of those suckers.....i'm assuming they have one turbo per cylinder, but just for shits and giggles imagine how big the turbo wiould be for the whole 14 cyl version....

I work for Cummins Diesel and have seen 78ltr engines but that thing is crazy.

i work on cummins diesels (and a few others...) and ahve seen a 14 lt engine....you win lol.

yes it would be a n14....i had to spray paint it lol.

jap: those blowers are rather sexy beasts. took a while to find a size reference, but theres some hand rails not to far beind them. all i can say is god damb i want one.

yeah i estimate the inlets are about 1 to 1.2m diameter

As racean69 said.. Imagine the gear used to bore and hone or forge parts of that thing!?

Ive got a feeling it would be a leggo engine... lots of little pieces ;)
