well it says the crank alone weighs 300tonn. theres no way in hell they can get that from the machine shop to the ship. it would come in parts, one jorunal segments, that bolt together. same thing with everythign else on it.

i still want one of those turbo's though....put it in the front garden :D

I'd hate for that thing to snap an engine mount.
how big do you reckon the patterns would have to be to cast that block??
Imagine changeing the oil in that thing! how many tonnes of oil would be in the sump/?
any pictures of the size of the glowplugs!!!

It's a two stoke, so I'm assuming this one just sucks its fuel from the crank case aswell?

Its supposed to be a new engine, but when I tried to find some more info about it its listed as and old model. The company I work for is indian owned and the plant is almost finished construction. We had a guy come out from cummins for commisioning of the emergency fire water pump, he reckoned they havent been made in Australia for 20 years, the thing come new from india :)

I work for the railways and our biggest engines are the EMD 710 (so called because of the 710 cubes per cyl) its a V16 (making it a 186L engine total), its a two stroke diesel with a turbo. Atlow revs it is gear driven, until there is enough exhaust gas to turn the turbo when a one way clutch disengages and it runs purely from the exhaust gases like a normal turbo.

These things make 4150hp @ 904 rpm, with a bore of 230.2mm and a stroke of 279mm

i got photos somewhere...
