Hi all,

I am i the process of putting security door locks & a new drivers side mirror on the LJ but cannot remove the window winder on the front driver & front passenger side  , the door handles come off fine as they were "loose" but the window winders are hard up against the door trim & I cannot get to the pin holding them (i assume it has the same style split pin holding it as the door handle??).

Does anyone have a simple or not so simple soltion to my problem??? Any help appriciated guys & girls.

Cheers,
Mick

window winder for some stupid reason has a spring under it from teh facory, to hold the trim out against it. only way to get it easily is with a proper door trim tool. can be done with a screw driver. also, you should be able to push it in, as it's only a heavy spring under the trim.

i didn't bother putting the spring back in my car, havn't had a drama.

Rag also works sometimes - usually the clip (which is shaped like a 'C') releases by pushing the ends of it away from the winder knob - it can be installed either way. Have a look at it first by pushing the coil spring hard against the door frame.

The proper tool is available at kmart or repco for about $8.00.

I use an old choke cable (spring steel) with a hook bent on the end.
Push back the nylon wear pad and "hook" the loop in the clip and pull.
Watch closely where it flys!

I use a hacksaw blade broken in half , alot flater than a screwdriver.

Also a rag can work well.

howabout grub screwing it??? eather the tricky way, put grub screws in the sides of where the shaft bit goes in, will be a prick to do up, or a grubbie striat through the middle from the outside, this will preload the handle on the shaft....
