What engine mods exactly did the A9X have over the L34 ?
i have seen both in the flesh and even ridden in them ? what is the "deal" with this superiority complex of the A9X

Mechanically the A9X road car had a stock 308 with a thermo fan. The rest was revised front suspension geometry, 10 bolt Salisbury with revised upper control arms and body mounting points to suit, rear discs, brake ducts, wider rear flare, optional 2.6:1 diff and T10 dealer fitted option.

There is no superiority complex at all, this is just talking facts. Why is it when you try and clear things up and speak facts people always think you are trying to show something is better than something else?
I never said the A9X had any engine mods over the L34, I said it wasn't the same as the standard SLR5000 engine.
The A9X had an improved crank over the L34 as I said earlier due to failures of cranks in the L34's. All A9X's had that mod and a different cam. We all also know it had the deleted engine fan and a thermo fan fitted instead as the L34's had a habit of dropping fan belts and pulling the bearings out of water pumps under race conditions. The block is the same as an L34, but so was an SLR5000's by that stage. I don't know why, but the repair kit for an A9X water pump wasn't the same as a standard pump, yet the pumps part numbers were the same. The L34 had all the good bits in the engine ready to go, all it needed was a decent exhaust and intake and a little tuning and the engine was good to go. When the A9X came along, slap that L34 engine into the A9X you had the complete package but niether car was a rocketship straight off the showroom floor. There are a lot of little differences in both cars, as I've said before, the A9X was an evolution of the L34. The L34 layed the groundwork, the A9X cleaned it up. I'm sure this discussion will go on forever, but all i have done is presented some unemotional facts.

not all A9X sedans had the larger rear flares, and the main reason behind the larger rear flares was the larger bag rear tyres the teams were starting to use compared to the L34's.

hi Gary,as far as color break down i can't really answer that question,..i no from personal experience the most popular colors were yellow, white, red and barbados green,i personally don't believe there was that many azure blues,i personally no of 3 sebring oranges ones,1 is a reshell recently advertised in qld,2 is in perth and suppose to bob janes ex race lots of speculation about it,and 3 i bought this car 5years ago for mate of mine and its pretty much original unrestored,...bob jane actually ordered 3 of them in his signature color..i know there was only 2 gold ones ever made and used own one about 8years ago which is now owed by a forum member jero..i've 12 L34s over a 25 year period and hand in buying another half dozen or so...the burgundy you mentioned vaguely rings a bell,..mate its pleasure sharing my real life experiences with these cars with other genuine people...your friend is most welcomed to call me 0418293330 in regards to my red L34...thanks Gary

The plates that went either side of harmonic balancer was the reason why the belts did not quite line up and caused them to throw belts at revs. Also quite common for a standard L34 to rev to 7grand a figure that no standard A9X would achieve.

In reference to the question which started the thread I believe that the L34 is indeed the most collectable Holden. The first L34 I saw was a burgundy one in 1974 just burbling along the road early one Sunday morning. During the years that my XU-1 spent under a tarp I sometimes thought that I would only sell it in order to buy an L34. Now that I can buy one regardless of what happens to the LJ I've put getting one on the to do list. I've had a HT 350, the XU-1 and a few other beasts but the L34 is the only other Aussie muscle car I want.

If it's all about rarity of a part5icular performance orientated GMH offering, how are the numbers for cars like:-

XU1 "bathurst models"
HK 327 Monaro
HT 350 Monaro
HG 350 Monaro
X2
etc (please ad where fit)

I was actually going to ask the same thing, regarding the HK 327 anyway. That would have to be a pretty collectible Holden wouldn't it?
