when I popped a diff I was looking at having it rebuilt, and the diff place was going to use a 6cyl statesman center to get the LSD

I believe the UC salisbury centre is the same as a banjo centre.
(Also early commodore small salisbury too I would think)

So Bango LSD should fit.

As the centres are interchangeable, there is practically no additional strength going to a UC diff over your original Bango.

Are you also aware the UC diff will not fit the LX without major modifications to the top arm arrangment.

There are also no new UC rear disc's available that I know of too.

Sorry about the bad news chief.

As The Baron said Banjo LSD will fit, there are two advantages I know of to the small Salisbury:

1) few Banjos had fine spline axles which the Salisburys all had
2) the Salisbury housing is a little stronger which saves the axles and bearings

neither of these is very significant though and the Banjo LSD is a small unit, most are worn out.

And as The Baron said also a UC diff will only fit a UC.

This is the first time that I have heard a UC diff called a 10 bolt.
The UC diff is a POS when compared to a proper 10 bolt.

I hope you are not kidding yourself here into thinking its going to be anything like a 10 bolt. :)
I will add, in its own right a UC diff is ok.

Cheers

Ive got a UC hatch so no problems with it fitting cauz it oready has exactly the same diff in it. originally i bought this diff to weld it becauz im dead set sick of my single wheeler but then i thought to myself i best to see if i can maybe convert it to LSD before i go and weld it as welded diffs r a bit of a hassel to get around in, there eligal and the arent that strong ie axles etc and they r startin to get a bit hard to find these days.

ok so early commodore and bang-go LSD's centres fit..... ok ok so does anyone have one forsale??? lol

thanx for the feedback
cheers matt

Went through this a few years back,as said before the UC diff is not as strong as a real 10 bolt, ive heard the 6cyl diffs called a "mini" sailsbury diff.

Im sure i was told the centres differ to a banjo tho ? a important thing to maybe check was what spline axels you have, as you need to get a centre to match.

From memory, they come in 25,28 and 32 spline ,i had very coarse 25 spline axels from memory and was told the diff centres that fit came from a early model 6cyl and 4.2 Litre V8 commodore (not the 5Litre V8 commodore tho) sedan and wagon centres the same.

They are supposed to be as strong or maybe a bit stronger than a banjo (as in,not strong at all), depending on your car (auto, manual etc) and if you treat it nice you may be suprised how long it will last behind a bit of HP, i know i was/am.

I got a LSD commodore centre from VIC, as i could not find one in QLD at the time,so i wish you luck.

25 spline I believe which is the same as fine spline Banjo (most Banjo diffs are 10 spline)

Coarse banjo are 10 spline. Fine spline banjo and UC small Salisbury are 23 spline.

The hemisphere from a banjo will not fit a std UC(Small Salisbury)diff,as the crown wheel sits slightly to one side compared to the banjo diff. The bearings, crown wheel & pinion will fit both. Here are some pics that may help you identify your diff.

Toranavista must be right, 23 spline (I must have been thinking Borg Warner).

Warren I didn't realise that the hemisphere didn't fit; I know that you can use them to change the Banjo to fine spline so it must be swapping side gears only...?

End result I was wrong! Banjo LSD is no good to you, you need one from an early Commodore.

Warrenm is spot on, the small & very rare commodore limted slip is alittle taller in size to the banjo limited slip, but however you can interchange the gears & cones from the banjo l/slip into the commodore l/slip if you can find one.

Ahh yea...i was thinkin the same deal with my UC too....an early model commodore LSD centre, if the centres fit into the small salisbury which i think you've established that they do, so if they are available

might be a way to go, yeh interesting to see what kind of dollars we're talking too, and could you use existing UC salisbury axles with an LSD salisbury como centre?...when did they change to borgs?

The early Commodores used the small Salisbury, its the same diff, and yes you'd use the UC axles. VK 1/2 (the injected motor) was the first to have the BW as far as I know.
