gday all,

I am looking at putting an overflow bottle in the LJ, since the drag day specifies it, and its a daily so it would be handy so i don't need to keep topping the radiator up all the time.

Which one should I use? I was just planning on heading down the wreakers and ripping it out of a later model Holden whatever.

I know i need to change the cap as well. I assume burson or repco or even Autobarn for one of them?

thanks

Steve

I have a HZ one in the LH. Only problem is that this particular one has a hole drilled directly above the inlet, so if/when it overflows (must be pretty explosive) water spouts straight up and out the hole. Was this hole original on the HZ, or has somebody done a nasty modification?

Other thing, don't forget to get a recovery type radiator cap (all of $13 or so) otherwise it's not gonna work for you.

Nomally had a pin hole.
Boys UC has been opened up too, I guess it's so you don't loose the cap when it lets go.

Yeah the early lasers are nice & small, you can unbolt the bracket the overflow sits on & reuse it if you like, they also come with a long hose if you get it off a wreck. The one I had cost $5.

Well i dropped into Centre Road wreakers (in Clayton, Melbourne) this morning and spotted a familiar looking stocky Yellow UC in the car park. Sure enough Peter UC was there hunting throught the Holden section.

Well in the end i got an overflow bottle and the bracket for it and the windsreen washer bottle out of a UC for $10. Dropped into bursons for a cap, cost me $8. All in all overflow for $18. No more cable tieing coke bottles to my horns ;) :tease: :spoton:

Now to got and rust treat and respray the bracket ;) :D

Something thats been on my 'to do' list for the past 6 months. I've been unable to find one from a UC at the wreckers I've visited so far so thanks for the tip on the laser - they should be easier to come by.

Whats this with the radiator cap?

Peace,

The standard radiator cap for a Torana just allows water to get out, where as the other cap allows water to get out and come back in. So when the motor gets hot water will come out the cap into the overflow bottle, and when it cools down water will come out of the overflow bottle and go back into the radiator.
