Bit of rust near the spare tyre well, so I cut it out
all gone. I have a spare wheel idea in my head, so I'm going to make this area flat (no well)
After removing some thick bog from one side of the LH rear corner, I noticed the part that goes around the quarter had a bit of a step in,and brass welded. Also the metal had surface rust underneath the filler and paint.
so it cut it off. I made a template for the new corner, so will be doing that some time soon.
I've been stuck on the chassis rail part on the rear for a while. So it was time to fix it.
The LH cut I got, had alot of the bottom of the boot connected, so I used the best side (RHS) for the fix (LHS) I cut it to a certain point which was identical to the hatch (a little bolt hole near the square hole). But I left the bottom part of the rail to help me align and give me more strength. This is the new bit (it's got a step up, for better alignment)
clamped in there.. I hope its alright. I will tack it in, and do heaps of rear bumper trial fits and measuring. (this section daunts me)
now since the rail is from the RHS the bolts for the bumper bar were back to front, so I remove the spot welds, filled up the holes and changed them around
all the right way around now
quick little tack on the top. It looks like now the bumper sits square on both sides, theres no tilt, or sticking out further on one side. I'm pretty sure I got the curvature of the chassis rail right. I'm going to have to re make the inner panel that sits against the back of the chassis rail where the holes for the bumper are, when I do that, I will continue to measure, test, measure, test this section.
I'm thinking of maybe getting some more 2mm steel and having them cover the joins and welded onto both sections for added strength.. Trying to find a way that doesn't look tacky or anything.
I did a search months ago to see if someone did a similar fix, but had no luck finding anything
Cheers
