could i get an approx cost to do the conversion, and how much would a 253 be worth running condition?
is it worth going 253 or is a 308 a better option?

might not be worth going for a stock 253 conversion, if your gonna be paying the extra rego and fuel u may as well go up to somthing more powerfull like the 308

bout to bin my pile of v8s, (4x 253's) they probly belong in a dump

If you can find a decent 308 block, grab one of them 253 cranks and get it offset ground to make a 336 stroker. :) then run some 283-307 Chev rods and 350 Chev pistons.

They use the 253 crank for its smaller counterwieghts which make balancing easier.

Hey bottledup do u have to run the chev rods n pistons dont the 350 pistons sit lower in the bore (lower comp?) to get a 336 combo? While ive got your attention have u played much with 4 corner idle holleys?
Sorry to steal the thread hehe

No 350 pistons sit lower when used with a Holden rod (5.680") You run small journal Chev rods (2.000" pin, 5.7" length). Naturally you do a dummy up before milling the deck to set your final comp ratio

What you want to know about the carbs? Either PM or start another thread, no stealing tolerated here... ;)

Cheers,
-Dave.

I thought it was best to use the 308 crank and 327 rods and 350 pistons for better strength than the 283 rods.
