Hi all,
have a question,
How can you tell a high compression head from a low compression one?
The engine is a 202 red motor engine prefix QL.

Cheers
Chris.

Hi

The part number on the head will give a clue. It may not be the correct head that goes with that motor.

If you look at the numbers on the head you can see a H or an L to the back of the head...that doesn't mean that the head hasn't been played with at sometime in the last 35 yrs.

I thought there was different engine numbers for high comp and low comp.

From memory High comp 173 from LJ is CD and low comp 173 is CB
Also High comp 202 from LJ is JL and low come 202 is JM

Steve

***EDIT*** missed that he asked about heads, not engines :fool:

if the head is off you can tell by looking at the combustion chamber, a low compression head will have a larger combustion chamber, On a high compression head the combution chamber will be very close to the vavles, or a kidney shape.

I think, not sure without going for a look but on the manifold side of the head at the back the will be the letter L (low) or H (high)....

Cheers

Les

Hi all,
thanks for the replies,
There are several set of letters on the head,
There is a seperate one at the back of the head,
there is an "8" then near that and "L".
So I guess is low compression.
Cheers
Chris.
