I checked my timing the other day on my Holden Red 2.8L and noticed that the timing was actaully off the scale and was approximately 12!

I thought this was way too much and put it back to around 9.

Ever since, every now and again my car will kindof backfire from the carborator when i put my foot down, eg when taking off from traffic lights, and then the car will just stall and not be able to start for about 10 seconds.

Do you guys know whats up with that? I will probably end up putting the timing back up to 12 but isnt that a little high?

I think the pulley has slipped around on the rubber in between the pulley and hub.
You have probably over adjusted for this.
Put it back to make it run properly, get a new/reco balancer and fit it.
Do the seal while it's off.
I always mark the pulley across the 2 parts before fitting so i have a reference of where it was new.
