To change, or not to change?

I need to decide if I will (or should I say can) change the colour of the hatch I am restoring.

Original state is -
Hatch SS 77, Paint: Deauville Blue, Trim: Charmois

Basically it is all over blue on the outside with black accents along the bottom L&R sills, rear panel and window surround. the interior is Chamois seats, door & hatch area trims and roof lining. Standard black and grey dash & console, and all carpet front , back and rear is black. As far as I can see, this is all original. (and it dont look bad at all....I really like it)

Now, here is my delimma(sp?), I have always wanted to have a Valencia orange hatch.

Can I have some honest opinions, ideas, criticisms etc regarding the above interior with Valencia orange paint job. Did it ever come out from GM in that combination, has anyone got that combination or seen it before?

As I said, all feedback can only be good feedback.

Thanks, Max

personal opinion..

i love orange hatches and probably will be changing mine to some sort of orange over the next year. However, mine is a v8 converted sunbird. I wouldnt change a genuine ss..

but really depends on how original the rest of the car is. .

thanks.

Keep it original and buy an SL!!

Pretty sure that's what I'm gonna do down the track.

Sounds like a nice car.

I have seen the trim combination you speak of. I dont think i have seen an SS in Deauville Blue before. I have seen an SS in Windsor Blue. I would leave it original. Less work and unique.

In my opinion leave it Deauville blue. Probably one of the nicest colours in the Torana range. I had a Deauville blue LH 5000 and had it freshly painted in 2 pac. You couldn't get a better looking combination..

My 2 bobs worth.

I know how you feel as I have a blue SS, I love that orange too!!!. I personally wouldnt repaint the SS, as I think it would affect your cars value in the future. But that orange does like nice on a Hatch.

I dont mind leaving it blue...I am still condidering the orange.

Maybe I wasnt clear......do you think the interior trim (colours) will clash with the exterior colour if I go the Orange?

I have a couple pics ready to show......can someone advise me how to do this. please

Thanks, Max

Thanks Dattoman, all set to go I think. Had a fiend help me with a quick tutorial also. Funny thing though, I didn't get to use a 1/2 inch nor a 9/16 to make the pics work!

Here are two pics I took when I got the car home

I have a few more of the interior but they need to be reduced in size before I can uplaod. Bear with me until I get a grip on this pic process.

Redslur: Do you have any clear pics of your car? The paint on mine is too far gone and I dont think it does the car justice at this moment. Also did you have a full black interior or like I have.

Hope this works!! Max

The LH that Toranavista posted is my old SLR.

Looks nice doesn't it? Still miss it..

It had the original black interior with grey golf ball inserts. Top combination.

Keep that interior, that is BEAUTIFUL!

The shade of orange on Brett's SHUBES hatch or that blue would both look great with the interior trim on that beast.

What's under the bonnet? what's the rest of it like?

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Colour will stay same (at this point)
Car is as original 202/trimatic.....no mods whatsoever + dealer fitted mudflaps in 78. will need to replace (or repair the lower dash panel), f + r screens and paint job obviously.
It is amazing...everything works on it...I have sussed out that it was with one owner for nearly thirty years....melb born...
Briefly the considered changes are- 5.0 efi, 5mt/4at???, hotwires or splats, front spoiler, brake upgrade and diff upgrade.....did I miss anything?
Max

PS not too sure about the stripes yet..I am drawn to them from that era if you know what I mean.

That's a very nice colour , if the paint was fresh the colour would stand out even more...
( my personal opinion its bad luck to change the orginial colour of a car )

OK ToranaSS I am up for a tease. Show me the hatch!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, the seats have not been thoroughly cleaned as yet.its an old camera trick, I set it to wash out the (white) chamois. However they are quite clean for original seats.

What do people use to clean the vinyl so as not to damage them long term?

Oh, I had a look at the make up of the hubcaps and was glad to see that its dead easy to replace the chrome rim to make them lok 'brand new'.

Also, can anyone help me with the switch panel located forward on the console, as you can see from my pics above, the area for the switches is a large silver rectangle. I have also seen panels which have a black insert surrounded with a silver frame.

Any ideas what is going there?

Max

I have always used Nifti and a stiff brush ie nail or tooth for the grain. Dont push too firmly and always try a test patch first.
