Those tiny rubber caps that go on the bolt that are the stops for the bonnet ie the front of the bonnet rests on them

AND I still think the sump guard gets knocked around a lot and is hard to find

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :tease:

The Opel suited the 161-S or 2600S (which ever way) motor better then the M20 and the M21 had the taller gears.

The Opel gearbox was OK and it was only the way you treated it.

It would not take going back in gears and using the engine as a break 'cause that would break the box.

AND dropping the clutch was not all that good for it.

My mate who had an LC GTR and then the LJ GTR had a way of toughening them up.

I had 4 years of good fun in the LC GTR but after now having my SS for 2 years, won't go back to an LC/LJ.

Maybe I'm gettting too old but I appreciate the extra comfort and ride of the SS against the Ferguson Tractor ride of the LC GTR :spoton:
Then there is the added grunt and note of the V8 ( :tease: )

Hi John

If we are talking about the shield on the top of the calipers that cover the pads and pins - XU1s weren't fitted with them. No backing plates either.

Cheers

Opel box small compared to M20/21 and had cast iron inspection cover which helped to stiffen it up.

Never heard of them flexing  and cast iron is brittle and doesn't flex but then again you can learn something new everyday.

i agee with manly all of you about the box bein more reliable than the opel, but the xu1 box was built for bathurst and to prove this we will need someone with sound footage of the start of the great race in 71/72/ or 73, off the line was first gear,,, comming into the first bend you will notice the torana pick up alot of ground on the bigger cars, has the car never needed to slow down because it was changing into sencond gear,,, anyone whom has footage watch it and take note, this gearbox was built for bathurst.

gmh and harry where a very smart team, this also would be the reason gmh kept the m21 when thay went into race in the 5000 and l34 and i think most race a9x also carried the m21, thay just streched the cogs and made them bigger and stronger to surpport the 308.

now i would like you input into this ^^^ has it would be great to nut this out.
cheers gong

and just to fill you all in on the dast covers that go on the top of the brake and pins, old racers have told me inthe day of rally raceing thay would carry heaps of these as spares, the thread that ronaldredsox started about what he should put in his spares box, brang back old memories,,, and if you think about it why rallying on dust and gravel roads after thay could not afford to get a rock stuck in there brakes, thay would say just about after every leg, the first thing the matnaceman would check would be the dast covers, and just about every time 1 or both would be missing.

at the end of the day these parts would only clip in.

cheers gong

Hi Bazza,

My gtr had them fitted, and also the xu1,maybe it was fitted to cars, who's owners lived in the bush, and city cars weren't fitted.

John.

Hi Frash

The LC and LJ parts catalogues reflect the situation that the 'SHIELD - Brake Caliper Splash" P/N 74838754 was not fitted to XU-1s. Whatever individual owners did after delivery does not change this. Perhaps people 'replaced' them because they thought that they were 'missing' when in actual fact they weren't there in the first place.

I will post a scans if requested.

I presume that these shields (as well as the backing plates) were deleted to improve brake efficiency by maximising the full effect of the air dam.

Cheers

Bazza

and the M21 had the taller gears.

AND the A9X gurus can elaborate on the T10 and disc brake Salisbury 10 bolt diff.
