Just came across something on another forum relating to diff widths and brakes etc.

Volvo late 240 series cars run a "volvo 1031" which is an M31 dana diff?

runs twin piston disc brakes, internal drum handbrakes, 3.73:1open centre (after market LSD centres available brand new from the states)

Meant to be pretty cheap to buy from the wreckers and are 1400mm wide (BUF-BUF)

LJ is only about 50mm off that isnt it? something like 1350mm?

Has anyone gone for an ovlov diff?

Any advantage/disadvantage over a commodore salisbury?

I think LJ is a bit narrower than 1350, but it might be good if you were looking to change to a wheel with outside offset

Just did a search,
http://www.gmh-toran...l=LJ diff width

1358mm hub to hub.

Volvo diff would keep the same stud patter too AFAIK.

Ive got one sitting in the backyard, orange.Mine is out of a station wagon,I think the ratio is 4.11.
I have stated in several threads my admiration for these units.
The best example I could give you is an old buddy of mine had a full street trim volvo with a strong 377 chev(destroked 400).
It ran mid elevens and weighed christ knows how much.
Never had a problem with his welded up unit.
If you get one, make sure you grab the handbrake cable as well.
They have a funny setup at the axle end but 2 cables going to a centrally mounted pullup type handbrake.
They have a flange type diff yoke
Torana stud pattern
There are a lot of brackets to cut off,so sharpen up you grinder
They are cheap to buy.The one I have cost $80 and was wrapped in a running car.
I think limo slip centers are available but are expensive.
Very few will have been thrashed.

Has anybody had a bad experience with one?

Couisin in law broke a volvo diff with a mild 308 in their volvo.

*the diff had over 400 000kms on it,the family owned the car since new lol.

Not sure what the standard lc-lj diff length is,the b/w in my lc is 1370mm.Probably wider than a standard diff to suit vt grange rims.
