'Purple' build thread

I thought i had started a thread on this, but i can't find it. Maybe i didn't.
Some background.....
Our '78 SL/R was written off [not our fault]......
but that's another story.
I thought the best thing to do at the time, was just buy another shell & throw a coat of paint on it. Toss in the interior from the '78 & we are motoring again. 6mths......that's all! That was 2001!
So i rang a good mate up, & told him the story........anyway.....he sold me this shell.
It's a '75 LH SL/R L31, M21. Yes.....the numbers match!
It came with a heap of spares. The outside was undercoated, the underside was painted in 2k gloss black. The engine bay had also been smoothed. The panel shop which had done the work before i bought it, had actually done a good job.
I had the car painted in black again, with a violet pearl in the clear. Stupid move!
The pearl reacted with the color & the car turned out completely wrong! It was a chocolate brown/ flat black looking mess! Fortunately the paintshop was understanding & coughed up for more paint.
The thing that pissed me off most, was that it was painted on Bathurst sunday, so i missed the whole race for nothing!
That was around 2003. It took a long while for the wallet to recover from that!
In 2005 we had another go.
This time round we decided on purple, against the painters wishes.
Here's a pic of it.
While the paint wasn't bad, the car was never finished. It still needed the black applied. The painter had done a rush job on it & i was never happy with it.
So i pestered him......& pestered him.....& threatened him lol.....& it finally went back into the paintshop around xmas 2008.
I got the car back last weekend. The paint isn't brilliant, but it is quite good & i am happy with it.
Here are a couple of pics of it coming home. [also in the torana on the torailer' thread.
The plans for the car are simple........304, T-5, 9", VN discs on the rear. It is HER shopping trolley after all!
It is the car i have wanted to build for years. I'm not after a 1/4mile blaster, just reliable family motoring.......with a little bit of 'overtaking ability'.
I get to do a bit in the afternoons, & on the weekends. I expect the build to take another 2 yrs, but the mrs says i can do it quicker. I probably could if she gave me her cheque book! lol
Here is the car as it sits today.
I have fitted the side glass. I will mount the roll cage tomorrow.
It still has rustproofing gunk pouring out of it.
If i can get the carpet in, i can fit the roof lining. But i'm not keen on swimming in rustproofing stuff!
I hope you'all like the pics so far.
Cheers, Col.

The rear flares & bootlid are still being finished.
There's a lesson here......dont scratch the flares with the allen key when tightning the flare bolts. lol

On a serious note, can't wait for the next trip to town for a butchers hook (thats a look for the young ones).
With all these projects and the fabrication section, it has got my arse into gear to get the house reno's finished, then the boss said i can start on hers.

Grill is silver, chrome strip around the headlights. No window surrounds.
I prefer the black personally, but the mrs likes the chrome.
Might be time to toss a coin.

Heath, i prefer the silver grill. The one i have is quite good. I think it suits.
I will borrow a black grill & post up some pics. See what you guys think.
Edit: She has changed her mind, [who knew? lol] black door handles it is!
