hey guys after some feedback. (looking at getting a tank built)

(according to tank builder) If it was centred hanging below the boot but flat not extending up into the boot like the XU-1 tanks. Due to exhaust hangers and limitation of space it would only be about 45 litres.

But if it was to extend up into the boot a la XU-1 would be 65-70 Litres.

What would you guys reckon would be best and what would you want?
Does anyone have plans for a centred LJ drop tank i could look at?
What do you think would be an attractive price?

And other features like baffles (obviously), rear pickup for drag/occasional drag racing etc.
Any other ideas??

Put em forward and I`ll see if we can organise a group buy if interested.
M.

I had mine built offset as they are factory so i could fit an exhuast along side it still i also had mine baffled rear drop down section with the fittings welded in top vent and im using a multi fit VDO sender!
I dropped mine an extra inch or two unsure on volume! Mate built mine.

No idea on centre tank! Will u have room for exhuast?

Cool,I've been trying to come up with a design for my lc like this.Especially now that it's going to be a street car again.Efi 5 litre.

I had thought of getting one of the streatneat tanks without top of the fuel tank welded on so it could be modified to suit an efi car & an internal fuel pump then thought would be better to just get a custom tank made so it's centred more to suit twin exhausts.

Features planned so far:

centred fuel tank
vdo fuel sender
drain bolt at bottom
some baffling/swirl pot
internal pump if possible (like an 044)
removable inspection cover on top(so tank can be cleaned
filler pipe similar to xu1 so tank is legal

3 weld on fittings for
1:return line,
2:feed line for external pump(suit nitrous or just a carby set up)
3:tank ventilation line or line from charcoal canister(if efi)

Tank would be atleast 50-60 litres in capacity, centred & have the tank sit higher as in more of it in the boot so it barely noticeable when you look from the back of the car.Look nicer in my opinion.
Not real keen on how I had the car before with lift pump, surge tank, efi pump & fuel hoses in the boot.It will probably have twin remote boosters in there also.I'd also like the keep the option open to running nitrous.

So yeah,I've thought about it lol.

I'll probably go have a chat to MrEnforcer about it if I ever get the chance or a new guy that worked at Mick's Metalcraft before they re-located.No idea on the quote yet.

Let us know what you can come up with or any other ideas.

Could try ringing the guy who made the tanks for Streetneat. The number listed on their website is 0421 060 996 and the guys name is Marty. Unfortunately Streetneat and Andrew have now moved to New Zealand last year so most the numbers people have for him would no longer work

Thnks mate
I will make up a boot floor mat to cover up the mouting around the edges of the top of the tank. The tank it self will still be seen on the top.
Capacity is about 90 liters? Not sure as i have changed the size from template so its a little smaller from originally designed
I actually made up the tank, floded, bent and cut the peices out, the welding was done by Leigh at extreme turbo manifolds.
It has baffles welded in also, and the two lids on top allow access for foam.

$600 ish

You may have to add $300 on top of that unfortunately. Never know someone may be able to do it. The materials cost about $300-$400, including the bungs/weld on fittings etc, im sure im forgetting other bits but thats roughly what your looking at i think as i havnt costed it properly.

May be able to do mild steel cheaper?

For the one I have planned on I was expecting it to be around $800-$1000 to have it done the way I want it.Haven't had time to get quotes yet.

If I had time I could make a mild steel version similar to the Xu1 tank for you.
Mild steel is less prone to cracking and leaking along the welds compared to alu etc
Then finished with aluminium coating.

Just to answer your question directly
I think an Xu1 style or similar would be good as the extra capacity is needed if you dont want to fill twice a week, but it would need baffles and or foam for fuel sloshing around
Price wise $800+ unless made in China. But then quality would be an issue and would be an issue for others to have a Chinese product in an Australian car. :D (Ishouldnt critisize since i have Jap parts in mine)

Ok, as the heading says you basically want the tank to drop more.

yeah mate but to also sit centred not off to the side.
I`d swap the xu-1 tank for a drop tank (+ cash depending on the tank) if i found one.
Although if this guy comes thru then its all good.

You may need to cut the hole in the boot to get the tank centre??
Or off set the bottom of the tank so its in the middle.
