Just browsing through a few pix, came across two interior shots and noticed different centre vents....I've never seen these before, can anyone tell me what model they're from?

The bottom one is straight SS, (non aircon) but I'll be buggered
how many different escutcheon panels there are out there!!!'
That's about the 3rd different type I've seen!!! (where switches go)
really wierd considering the model's life.

The bottom one in the SLR looks like an aftermarket
centre vent/aircon unit. You can see it sticks out a fair
bit more past the steering wheel (in the photo) so there
is actually about an inch or so of 'flat' area sticking
out from the dash where the normal vents are.

Is it possibly UC or VB vent? I have seen the same thing
on quite a few Torries. I tried to rotate mine like a normal vent
but it stopped at about 30 degrees either way.

I reckon aftermarket.

Hopefully Kas will see this. She is interested in aircon atm.

ah yes, you are right, have a look, that also extents out to the left, in the passenger area, it's either a dealer fitted system or an aftermarket setup. As for the escutche, there were 2 types, one with a big flat plate and 3 black areas to cut out for switches. That is the early type, and the late type had 3 panels with no cutouts visable.

The top one is from this GMPA A9X. Looks like an after market conversion. Might be some clues in the pics.

Oh maaan thats a nice interior. Almost exactly what mine will look like,
except mine will have black hatch console.

I reckon I have seen a third type escutcheon panel too.
It was an sl type, you know with the printed -=<{ }>=- thingy,
but was not the close together squares (with demister in centre one)
it was really spaced out rectangles, with about 10-15mm in between
each rectangle. [goes off an looks for a pic]

1/. As in pic with moulded recesses
2/. Just plain squares, not cut for switches
3/. Wierd one as described above

and the SL/Sunbird and SS variants I suppose colour wise, but
I was talking about physical plastic differences.

I'll shut up now.

PS - no wait! How does he turn his air con on?

Hi Guys.

The top picture is the Genuine GM P & A 'Accessory' A/Cond system. These are a custom fit underdash unit with a 'Holden' label on the control panel (hidden by the steering wheel).

These units are often mistakenenly called 'Factory Air' when they are actually 'Factory-Approved' dealer-fitted A/Cond, not to be confused with the Delco/Harrison fully-integratred unit which is fitted at the factory.

Toranavista, that is not a GMP&A A9X you have pictures of there, it's a factory road car. The aircon looks like the setup I have seen fitted to most A9X's as the dealer fitted option.
As for the switch panels, I thought i had an early version here somewhere, but all could find was the later version in both SS and SL forms, but there were only 2 types made (4 if you count the colours)

- gonna find that 3rd one RED'!!

The 'one' you have shown is same type, just different screen print.

The secondtype had the area for the switches moulded in, looked like
it was easy to snap them out to put in a switch. I think that is pictured above.
The silver area is also one piece, no rectangles.

The third type had smaller rectangles, with big gaps between them.

As I said, a monaro part maybe?

Gonna find dem pics.

PS - dont suppose you would part with that radio panel?

Toranavista, yes I know the car personally, the guy has a hatch with the same colour trim as well, and leaky, if the one you saw had bigger gaps, it must be from something else, or a remake?

our electrical shop at work just fitted a new a/c system to a hq v8 the other day and the compressor bracket that they used was just like that one in the photo. but it sat on the genuine type alternator bracket .

lx5008, how are ya?

You mentioned a new air con unit? Can you give me a little more detail?
Probably interest a few people. (Kaz is looking at present)

I realise you said it was for an HQ.

Might be time to start a new thread!

I'm keen to investigate prices etc for re-conning my aircon.
Do you guys do that? ie. upgrade to newer gas type?

Could you call, pm or email me? 0404 109 943

I think you're NSW based? NO?

it was a brand new complete system, under dash system of cause the guy in the hq was very happy even though it cost him over 2,500 grand. for a torana if you had a factory type under dash unit the rest will be piss easy even if you did use a hq v8 alternator bracket under the a/c bracket you can still leave the torana alternator on the r/h side. on monday ill find out more and let you know.

Interesting thread, havent seen one of the fact approved units b4, could be an easier install than a fact unit, if you can find either. The wider photo does reveal all, can see signficant 'cowling' under left foot well and standard heater controls on right.

Red - haven't we had the switch panel discussion before?

I have seen three types - all actual Torana parts (not from other models).
The original punch out type, the large area (no punch out type) and one with a raised rim like the punch out but no depression. I think that is how to describe them.
Might have to PM V6Hatch so he and hatchblack can line em all up and take a pic. Or you could call Simon and Al yourself. I'm sure they'd be happy to have you down to discuss Torana.

Grant..
