Once the vinyl has dried out it is pretty much had it. A friend of mine used Dubin and a heat gun to try and get some life back into his dash pad. It worked fairly well but you just have to be careful not to apply heat to the dash pad in one area for too long.hrmm, no ideas? Leather conditioner wouldnt bring it back to life, or once there dry and brittle ish there no good anymore? I can press on it and it doesnt crack but it feels very stiff, too much sun.

dont use solvents on vinyl es ketones (acetone MEK) or esters (ethyl acetate) etc. as they will dull AND PARTIALLY DISSOLVE IT

Selleys RP7 uses lanolin as the lubricant and WD40 uses silicone - RP7 is the one I prefer.
As for vinyl and plastic, if you notice the dusty film on the inner windscreen above the dash after the car has spent time in the sun that is the plasticisers that have escaped from your interior.
When the plasticisers are released from exposure to sun, heat, time, etc. the material becomes brittle, you can't put them back in no matter what you rub into it.

With all the mucking about buying RP7 etc, why not look for another dash pad?
Spray it up if the colour is wrong.
Re-vinyling is way too costly, and you wont ever get it to look right
using RP7, WD40, Lanolin, Sheep guts or anything else!!

I wouldn't recommend using RP7, WD40, etc. on vinyl, it also has spirits in it that would more than likely dry it out. With all the mucking about buying RP7 etc, why not look for another dash pad?
