Heya guys and girls!

At the moment i have an SLR dash and with the new motor i would like an accurate oil pressure gauge.

I was wondering if anyone has any photo's of where they mount their gauges?

I don't like the pillar ones, they look really ricer. I don't mind the ones that mount outside just in front of the windscreen.

Just looking for ideas, so throw them at me.

Cheers

Evan.

The cowl panel ones definately look the best in my opinion and are easily visible, but the authorities seem to hate them. Don't know what the TOG is like over there though

cheers for the fast replies guys.

Yeah i would like them easily visible as its mainly for when im at the track, its something that i have to keep an eye on when going around the long bends.

You could mount them straight in the dash, like those ones you can get off ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com....id=p3286.c0.m14

If you are taking it to the track, I would be getting warning lights made up and mounting them in eye-sight somewhere. Then you can mount the gauges wherever.

They are called TMU now (Traffic Management Unit), but they are the cops that specilise in canaries. TOG i think stood for Traffic Operations Group?. Basically the Hwy Patrol cars.

When your at the track your not going to look down there for a drop in oil pressure

If your serious hook up an idiot light like racecar have so when the pressure drops you actually get a red flash hopefully in time to shut her down

Not sure how your going to do this nicely though unless you use a high intesity LED and put it under the dash overhang... out of the way till all hell breaks loose

As far as where to mount gauges... take a look at thee ones MRLXSS posted on ebay... maybe something along the lines of this with the ones you want to add... still looks sorta factory and they are up in your eyeline where you need them

Cheers for all the suggestions guys!
Heaps of good ideas!

I would really like to make up a new dash with new gauges , but i want to keep her looking original as possible. As im hooked I want to get a dedicated race car in the near future and want to keep my hatch as a streeter.

That's a good idea about rigging up an idiot light , i could wire a LED under my dash mat and have it just sticking out.

I agree with datto - idiot lights are the only way to go if you actually intend to monitor the vitals during racing.

If you look back at my interior photos - on the tacho I have a shift light, and above that a mini-pro-light which is rigged up to an oil pressure sender unit, it comes on for low oil pressure. I'm actually replacing it though with a full size pro-lite (same size as the shift light), because I find the small ones aren't bright enough. But at least where that's mounted is right in your vision.

I wish there was a neater way to mount the bright warning lights without cutting shit up on a standard Torana dash. The lights don't look 'tough' like guages do hahaha, they only look good when they are hanging off the side of a monster tacho

sshatch355, what are the three lights for? One oil pressure obviously, are the others one fuel pressure drop and shift light or something? Cheers

I was thinking of getting a shift light. As I have the original tacho which works fine but would be good to have a shift light. Any ideas of the best place to mount one, without cutting the dash? Would you see a decent sized one down below the head light actuator?

I was always planning on putting one of the large diameter shift lights where my cigarette lighter sits, aimed towards the driver's position. But having that cigarette lighter socket is kinda usedful. Could be mounted somewhere else...

my temp and oil gauges are mounted to the right of the heater vents. ill get a photo if i can.

A shift light could possibly be positioned behind the right air vent, would be abit of dickin around with wireing etc but would be a neat place for one.. as long as it was large and bright you'd have no problems one would think... and when you dont wana see it, just close the vent. it would be semi eye sight too. my 2 cents anyway...

Don't put them in the dash where the ashtray goes. It just doesn't look right.
