Videos from inside my mates car - a VH Commodore. Sound is a bit crap as he had the recording volume up too high so there's distortion.

Best lap time over the weekend was a 2 minute 35 seconds, in a car that uses a cast crank and points ignition with a rev limit of just over 6 grand. Great drive on his part.

Warming up the STP Commodore before the race.

A couple of pretty special Torana's return to the pits.

This is what happens when you kiss a Commodore with an A9X. Bits come off!!

Posted Image

Darren the mechanic seems impressed???

Posted Image

Couple of cool bits of engineering, 1984 style.

The fuel catch plate under the Webers is the lid of an Sunbeam old frying pan

Posted Image

While the FB Holden hub cap makes for a similar set up around the fuel filler area.

May have been a bit tough to keep the Turbo Bluebird together for 1000kms but its one hell of a quick car.

hi craig , nice pics and vids mate ..

what was that crunch noise at 6.16 on the first video ???

maybe it was the damage to the rear flare

FOSC Group A/C field leaves dummy grid.

Unfortunately a distinct lack of big Fraud's at this event.
A real shame as I reckon the XD/XE's make great looking race cars and always sound so tough.

Possibly, the contact was just past the rise on mountain straight. Very lucky it didn't spin the car as the damage would have been significant. The flare hung on until the entrance to McPhillamy and then flew off into the sand. We took my FC for a drive around the circuit at lunch time and recovered it from the very helpful flaggies.

Almost had to put the FC back to first gear to get through the cutting ^_^

Thanks Mate..I was into 2.28s on the TZ350 GP bike in 1977...Hansford and Willing were under 2.18s...you just moved over on Conrod to let them past!!..Lol!....still the best track in Australia..if not the world.
R

My best was 2:45 (from memory) on a 1979 TZ 125 in 1986 - flat out down conrod at 160kmh. The fast bikes were doing 220-240km :-( Still finished 7th in the Australian GP though and that is my one and only claim to fame !!

I'll never forget one of my first races at Wanneroo - I thought I was king dick until entering the "Basin" on my KR 250 flat out and then hard on the brakes in order to make it round the corner, when suddenly I was passed, one on either side of me, by 2 1000cc superbikes still hard on the throttle........

Made me want to give up and go home - absolutely awesome and these guys were slow compared to the Aussie champs of the time and absolute snails compared to the world champs. So what did that make me :-(

I saw that van, very nicely restored and perfectly presented. Job well done.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time at the FE FC Nats though. Arrived about 6.00pm Saturday and went to the dinner and wiped out a some brain cells with a few mates - one of them 76 years old who has owned his FE since new and spent forty years as an RTA inspector. Old Mal has plenty of great stories and is easy to drink under the table :)

Went on their 'Super Cruise' on Sunday morning. "Cruise" being the operative word when a fair bit of it was up through Mt Canabolos and the grey powered cars were struggling at times.

The cruise ended at the local Rugby Park and I had a look at the cars for a couple of hours then travelled back to Sydney. The standard of cars has really risen in the past few years with some top notch modifieds - MR FC and a newly completed V6 powered car from Lithgow being standouts (below), and restored cars of the highest quality. The car from Lithgow was built by one of my mates up until paint/interior stage. Has a flat floor and wheel tubs - completed in his apartment block's underground garage. He has understanding neighbours!!

Posted Image

This is one of my mates cars. My brother did some paint work and I did the engine bay on this one. Nice looking car.

Posted Image

One of the best colour combinations on an FC

Posted Image

This is a great looking car - blown 202 and driven from S.A

Posted Image

The quality of this restored ute was outstanding.

Posted Image

Built from a very average wreck by the one guy - all work himself. He's an ambo by occupation and has just done a very good job on this car.

Posted Image

Yep, its an FC!!

Posted Image

I love the unrestored cars that pop up - like this one that was used in a concrete plant. How do they survive???

Posted Image

Seemed to be more vans, utes, and wagons than ever which was good to see however I didn't take too many photos but will post some on here when they appear on other forums.

Next FE FC Nats is in Perth area in 2012. Four of us are going to build an FC wagon and drive over, then leave it there and fly home. Mal will be 78 years old by then so he has agreed we should carry a big cardboard box in case something untoward happens!!!

Should be a great trip.

Where are you going to leave it or is that a secret?

You can dump it at my house when you've finished with it if you like...Posted Image

We had planned to leave it in the park at the show venue although then we would need to pay for a taxi to the airport - so it will probably get left outside the domestic terminal in a tow away zone.Posted Image

One of the guys who is going along is quite well off and is going to donate the car and fuel to the cause of being pissed idiots for a week while we travel to Perth. Something about a bucket list he is working through since he fell off his Vespa scooter recently.

The guy below travels to every nationals from Perth. In the last 10 years he's gone to Penrith in Sydney, Phillip Island, Jindabyne, Mt Gamier, and now Orange and I've never once seen that surfboard come off the roof!!

Posted Image

He documents his journey on the FE FC forum and on the back window of his car. Top bloke and amazing commitment.

What was Charles Jardine's wrap on the event? I'd say he'd be stoked to have the Group A/C cars there.
