The two types I have seen are the ones with a black plastic 'rosette' type nut and the ones with a metal wingnut type nut.

Did the black plastic one also have the blue plate shown in redslur's photo?Very late cars had the black plastic one, but most had the wingnut.
I see them on ebay every now and then but have yet to see one with the plate.
Edit: is the plate the base for the jack?

I am glad you mentioned that the later LX had the black plastic ones I thought I had the wrong one on... Just to be sure mine is a May 77 build date so would a plastic one make sense?? The original owner assures me it's the original one.

With the plastic one I notice it is conical in shape so without the jack base can you tighten them down far enough to grip on the wheel centre hole?"just the Jack Base" but is used to hold the wheel in when the wingnut tightens it down.
