Hey everyone.... Am looking to get a new single carby for my red 202 manual 4 speed torana, with the aim to get a fair bit more power. Any advice on a good carby which will give me alot more power with still good fuel economy ? There has been talk of the Weber 34ADM off the XE/XF 3.3 Falcon ? any feedback of this ? the holley 350 not a good go ? what about strommy ?
any feedback greatly appreciated
thankyou

ADM 34 Weber, Varijet or WW Stromberg are my picks in no particular order.

350's are miles too big, 390 4 barrel square bores are too big but are the ultimate...reasonable economy, excellant power

Depends on what it is going on as to the legality....weber, varijet and WW Strommy are pollution compatable..holley is not.

XF Falcon carbie is a pretty good one, but ain't fantastic for economy.

WW is a pretty good happy medium and they're readily availible. (Standard 253 carb)

Don't know anything about the ADM 34 Weber, but teh Varijet II is worlds ahead of the 1bbl Stromberg, easy to find and work on, and it'll still give you good economy.

In reguards to the Strommy.... What is the overall difference with performance and economy between the single barrel and the WW 2 barrel ? Does the WW twin barrel give better performance ?
thanx

it is much better than a single. best of both worlds with economy and power (you can't have cake and eat it too though)

Heath..the XF carby is the weber ADM34.

Ahh thanks. I knew it was a Weber but I had no idea what it was called.

Just empty your pockets and whack a set of triples on it, hehe. You can find a nice set for around $500...

yes I had one that had a massive hole in the main jet...it was a good carb but at the end of the day how much air can you get thru an 1 3/4 hole?

I got extra 10 mph on the top end when I replaced the modified single with a 350 and I got another 5 mph when I put the 390 on.

im using a ww stromberg, lots better than the single barell stromy, and not much difference in fuel economy, now im experimenting with a 465 holley to see what thats gonna be like.....only time will tell....

A lot of people bag out the 350 Holley because its ONLY a 2barrell when big brother 390 is a 4barrell... I ran a 350Holley on my 202 (standard) and had it dyno tuned. The jets in the 350 Holley were too small for my motor. Car ran like a dream until i lost an exhaust valve....

I would give it a try if you have a budget (they are pretty cheap carbies)!!!

I don't bag it because its a 2 barrel..I bag them because they are shit.

A 350 has 2 big throttle butterflies on a common shaft....so no secondary...not very good for driveability.

390 has 4 small barrels...secondaries.... good airspeed thru the venturis...good driveability and is economical (if you keep of the secondaries) and powerful (if you don't)

Lol, i understand your theory, but would like to add that mine with the 350 Holley is every bit as smooth and driveable no matter what the circumstances!

Thats not to say the 390 or 465's are crap, just that baby brother 350 still does the job nicely!! And it's been proven that they make power!
