I have a friend looking at the following-

model- VK8VK19-134
trim- 3038-44X
paint- 1J052-D

engine- L31
Trans- M21 (4 speed manual obviously)
Axle- GU4 (salisbury?)

basically, he thought he remembered 134 being the police option?

after some googling I came up witha few things, but none that really explain what this is.

From what I can tell, its a 308, aussie 4 speed, salisbury rear end, SL VK commodore with rear discs (134 option?)

If anyone can add anything more, that would be great.

134 is 134 pack, I had 1 new, I didnt know they came with L31, always thought LV2(304) was the engine. They have FE2 suspension, LSD, cold air snorkel, oil cooler, big front sway bar, no rear , B cast heads, nice little HDT sticker on the dizzy and basically just SL interior like the SL group a, from what I can remember, also came in red, white or silver.I think BT1 was the police option.

All VB-VK Commodores had sailbury rears
Then they went to BW diffs

Being an L31 car it should have had the big sailbury and disc rear
GU4 is just a diff ratio not a design designation

My old VK Calais , Factory 308,( L31 ) had a small sailbury , The tag was for a 2.6:1 ratio - but it was a 3.08:1 ratio ( must have been built on a Friday )

Yes I think so, mine was 4/85 with the 4.9.

Pretty sure all v8 VK s have disc rear. 308:1 for man & 278:1 for autos, but saying that I had a VH 308 auto with 2.6:1, so maybe VK s maybe similiar.

All 5.0L VB-VK had a large GMH Salisbury with disc brakes. If not it was changed or it wasn't originally a 5.0L. The only carbied Commodore V8 to get a Borg Warner was the VL. There was no such thing as a 2.78:1 Salisbury after HJ. That ratio was replaced by 2.60:1 approx late HJ.

308 was destroked to 304 mid VK for international Group A rules in 1985. The early VK's were mainly VT prefixed 308's (L31).
