hey so a few months back I bought a S/b chev fuel pump and I was going to put it on my 186 the other night so I pulled my old pump off and compared them. the holden 6 fuel pump was alot ( I mean alot) easier to depess by hand than the S/B chev one. I know a few other guys on here have used them but I was worried it my put to much stain on the motor ( cam) and maybe bugger something? any help or advice would be good

also would I be better to run a electic fuel pump instead?

cheers antony

Obviously Luke's right there. Any chance of the fuel pump being a bit better if you pull it apart, clean it out, oil it up and stick new gaskets through it?

I can't imagine it straining the engine too much. Keep in mind how much momentum the internals of an engine have, especially with metal timing gear. I suppose it would be an issue if it started grinding into the cam a bit, but it's quite unlikely.

I woudlnt think that there would be any problem with the pump being harder to depress.

Only go electric if there is another reason to. Rember the KISS principal, if it doesnt need the complexity why do it!

The cam wont have any more pressure on it with either pump.. I wouldnt be worried about it!

Cheers.

If you think the pump is hard to push try pushing down on a valve spring !!! And the cam has to open 12 of those !!

The fact that the pump is hard to compress is a good thing...... The firmer spring is to stave off "valve float". This is why most fuel pumps run out of fuel at high RPM, inadequate spring pressure.

Not contradicting any of the above but if you have any doubt, blue, black pumps are bigger than standard 186.
