i think you defineately need the system that i have on ultrablue,no fuss no shit just a full on race system,mind you the epa would have a field day with it,but who gives a shit its a weekender,

Gotta agree :spoton: decent extractors into big collectors, both feeding into a side exit group C muffer. Sounds excellent, and raises some attention, unfortunately not all good.

I left a Group C system on at the Summernats once when I drove back to my Motel, and copped an EPA fine for 110 dB. Bugger's don't have a sense of humour :rolleyes:

Just to expand this thread even further...

How is it that the db is recorded? I can't quite remember, but isn't is something like at an angle of 45 degrees and a distance of half a metre at 3/4 revs or something? I'm interested to give mine a test and see what its at.

Cheers,

Mine are the same, l am still toying with going smaller. Was thinking 2", l was hoping that your were smaller as others seem to like the sound of your system. It sounds pretty good, l may just stick with what l have.

Cheers Simon

Pacemaker Tri-Y's 1 5/8th primaries into Dual 2.25 inch system under the diff w/balance pipe (not x-pipe):

Pass 1 (between 1/8th --> 1/4 throttle 1750 - 2000rpms) :: Pass1 (Right-Click Save-As)

Pass 2 (between 1/4 --> 1/2 throttle - 2500rpms) :: Pass2 (Right-Click Save-As)

Sorry, I dont have any vids of my block screaming it's tits off or flat to the floor, vid was taken with my mate driving past gently at different throttles so I could hear what it sounded like from the outside at a light cruise.
Plus it was late at night (industrial area) and as you can imagine from those throttles my pipes make alot of noise when the foot is dropped and the revs go up.

Mild 308.
Sorry I dunno what mufflers it's going through, I haven't gotten under to check (custom pipes guys made the decision for me).

Hope that helps at all.

Oh yeah, ignore my squeeking drum brake, annoying pos :P

Mondie - so you upgraded from the Super Cats to the Redbacks correct?

l upgraded from no name straight through crap mufflers to the Super Cats which are tri flow, fibreglass packed muffs that sound pretty good.

My mufflers are straight through Super Cats, wonder what sort of influence this has on the sound?

Cheers,

That sounds about right for testing, its at 3/4 of peak power rpm, so if you peak at 6,000rpm its taken at 4,500rpm.

Then there is a drive-by noise test, which is conducted on open road, at around 60kph, in top gear, you use full throttle til 80kph or something around there. Its just to measure full throttle driving by.
Not sure on the limit of this one.

I need to do both these tests, a brake test, weigh bridge ticket and get the car engineered to get my car registered still. FUN :(

Quick question Mondie - on page 3 you mentioned "2-1/4 large bodied tri flow Redback mufflers" - was that a typo or am I confused? If you have the Super Cats now and you reckon it's fixed your poxy note, then maybe Liam is onto something interesting - perhaps it's more related to whether the muffler is a straight through or triple pass etc.....

I have to admit I do like the idea of running the side exit race pipe. That'd be very cool if we were all cruising around with race systems!!!

Lxchev, yes my mistake l was intending to get Redbacks and the shop stocked them mostly but the Super Cats were recommended so l went with them. The reason my exhaust sounded crap was because of the cheap straight through muffs, this is even more of a problem with large tailpipes like the 2.5" pipes l have.

Ok cool, thanks for that! I am seriously considering trying a good set of Triple-Flow mufflers. Surely if I get nice big ones it wont rob too much HP. I do want to shut the car up a little bit, it's too noisy and I must be getting old because I'm getting more and more paranoid these days with all the hype in the media when it comes to hoons, with police and EPA cracking down etc. I just want my car to sound awesome, but not overly loud for the street. As long as it's built with flanges, I can easily swap systems back for driving events..... Hmmmm decisions, decisions!

To shut my 253 up i got the exhaust shop to replace the straight through mufflers with this muffler box that goes ---- | ___ . Its just in offset then theres a wall then out centre'd. Hard to explain but it worked really well to shave a few db off it. I think there super-cat branded aswell.

Thats part of the reason l got the Super Cats, they are very large bodied compared to the others so l figured that could only be good. Not doubt Red Back have an equivalent, the shop didnt have a pair at the time though.

Know what your saying LXCHEV, I've been pulled over a couple of times in the last month for 'just a routine alcohol and licence check sir' and that was just in my daily, I would have been dead in the other car.

Jabba's also right, I think they are more of a very very gentle S bend rather than a straight through muffler. You can still see straight through, but the entry and exits are slightly offset.
