That's an unusual request. People usually ask for the dealer's name from the number, not vice versa. Any reason for this?

Members, thank you for the replies to date. Late in 1973 I acquired a Yellow 9/73 Bathurst XU-1 made in Brisbane and sold by Leach Motors. I previously had a gunmetal grey LC GTR. The XU-1 was sold to buy a new 1976 Jamaican Lime HJ Monaro from Mial - Philips Holden who were at Rocklea where A-Mart is today). I have the original Invoice for this car. This was traded at Active Service Motors, Roma in 1977 on a new 308 Bordeaux coloured Sandman Panelvan (factory Statesman grill � ordered under the guise of an Ambulance pack). I have receipts and build sheet for this car too). I am determined to locate (and may have) my original XU-1 so I need its details. By studying pages 329-330 of the vehicle Master Listing, only 7 Bathurst cars were made in Brisbane in 9/73:

� 4/9 Engine # 387809 sold by Dealer 905 (Possibly Mackay)

� 5/9 Engine # 387847 sold by Dealer 909

� 4/9 Engine # 387810 sold by Dealer 739 (Tweed Motors, Tweed Heads)

� 4/9 Engine # 387793 sold by Dealer 476 (Sturgess Hall Pty Ltd, Auburn NSW)

� 7/9 Engine # 387847 sold by Dealer 498 (Presumably NSW also)

� 5/9 Engine # 387847 sold by Dealer 029 (John A. Gilbert, Camperdown NSW)

Consequently one of the above two should be the car I had. By knowing its details, I can confirm the identity. I know it�s a long shot but worthwhile given the sentimental value. I have details of most cars I have owned but all I have for the XU-1 is a �Blueprint and Balance� receipt from Dick Johnson when he owned the Shell at Woolloongabba. I am in no hurry as I am currently restoring a 1930 V16 Cadillac and a 1930 Packard Super 8 Factory Speedster. I�d just like the XU-1 in the queue. I will post photos in a couple of weeks.<BR style="mso-special-character: line-break"><BR style="mso-special-character: line-break">

Yes there were. I meant to say that I had narrowed the search to 7 of the 22. I further reduced that to 3 - those blank below. I did not take into account
the fact that dealers swapped cars after being issued by GMH. In fact dealers have done that for me when I wanted a particular colour.
By studying pages 326-331 of the vehicle Master Listing, only 22 Bathurst cars were made in Brisbane in 9/73. Three remain anonymously sold. Could they be Qld dealers?

Hi JP 388598 is one of our 9/73 bathurst xu1 toranas dealer 902, rally race driver bruce mc cubben from home hill nth qld bought it new for 3700.00 to rally it
,
it was rallied from 1973 to 1979 including 5 ARC champion ships qld, i have the dealership name for 902 not sure weather to post or not because of some one selling code list

on e bay BUT IM HAPPY TO GIVE IT TO WHO IS DOING THE LIST

902 comes up on the VIN disc in the Z column as 1 (Qld) or commencing with the letter "C" or "D" or even 4 (South Aust). I would be interested to know the truth.

Hi,
I own the 9/73 one sold through dealer 702. I had done some ringing around some time ago with Holden dealers in QLD and came up with 702 being Elgee Motors Kununarra in WA. (different to the one listed above) They did not have any info for me as this dealer had changed hands but kept the same dealer code. I get the impression that if you get the right person in the service department, they seem to be able to look these up in their computer systme. i'm not sure how far back they can look though.

My car was first registered in QLD, so I assume it was actually sold through in qld. It has some mounts welded on at the front chassis rails that look like it had a bullbar on it at some stage, perhaps suggesting a life in country qld.

I'm not sure what extra info you have to see if it is the one you are looking for, pm me if you like.

the reason TO post all info is so others don't get stung by wankers like that as the info is freely available here.

Can someone check that those listing are no longer there as I have a NOCI in to have them removed. �Ebay have yet to give me details on how many were sold.

If someone wanted to post "Access to GMH-Torana.com.au" for sale, Buy it Now $1,000,000, and list all we have here in particular dealer codes that were illegally taken from here and being sold on Ebay........that would be awesome.

Thanks, mine was yellow too. After selling mine in 1976 I was working in Wallumbilla 42km on the Toowoomba side of Roma and saw my former car parked at the railway sing - it then belonged to a raiway worker. Can I ask if your car is plated 8/73 or 9/73? I'll send you a PM.
