And then there's these faggy european things. Manual box (as we know them) but with electronically controlled shifting, clutch actuation and throttle application.
Some look like manuals and others have t-bars and a park function. :Headbang2:

I always have a ball driving a full manual auto with a decent hi-stall. :joystick:

If you've got enough power, sure, no one is saying it isn't fun, but did you ever drive it before it was auto'd? I honestly reckon the car lost a lot of its character when it went auto, but that's just my 2c.

I think it's partly because most cars that have tricked up autos DO have a lot of power, that you go and drive one and you're like "woah that was awesome, now i love tricked up autos", when a lot of what you're falling in love with is just the power hahaha

I sat in Glenn's Ultrablue A9X during a nice long hoon, apparantly that thing was pumping 500hp or more (I'd believe it) and it still had a stick. That separated the car from everything else I've been in with that much power, it was unbelievable.

If ALL you want to do is run quarters, do burnouts and cruise (which is honestly what the majority of Toranas seem to be built for nowadays), then fair 'nuff

Has anyone driven SAAB with a clutchless manual? Takes the 'funny buggers' out of driving a manual. Despite the fact they're FWD, you can't exactly side kick the clutch mid corner...

My brother has A HG Monaro with 550 horse 400 small block Chev, it has a manual. IT has less power and more weight than my car, but its seat of the pants feel and driving is far better than my auto. That's the reason I'm in the process of changing to manual. Like everyone has said if you want to go down the quarter fast stay auto, otherwise more fun to be had with a manual.

What they need is the automated manual systems that still retain a clutch pedal so you have the CHOICE to be a full manual, semi-automatic or full automatic.

I hate with a passion all the step-tronic, tip-tronic, sport-shift type marketing crap that is just a standard automatic with fancy way of selecting which gear you want. Especially the ones that change up anyway when the computer decides to, or won't change down when you ask it to. Whats the bloody point of that ??

Agree with the above. I went for a ride the latest AMG Merc thingy on Boxing day, noticed that the dam thing evens blips the throttle on the downshifts for you when the paddles are used....boring

My opinion - Auto are good for daily driven cars eg my daily VS(very sluggish) Commodore V6 but my Torana will be manual for when I want to take it out and 'drive' Agree auto though if you intend doing some drag work

Try listening to what the box is doing, then replicate it in full manual mode.
It can actually 'teach' you! Tons of fun! :)

I love the Porsche PDK!

I'm curious, but, if you go for your liscense in a flappy paddle [excuse the Clarksonism] box in 'manual' mode, do you get a manual liscense?

NO - you need to show clutch control for a manual license.

I don't have a problem with any of these automated systems, as long as I have the choice to put it in full manual when I want it.

Some good points there Heath. No I never had the chance for a pedal when the car had a Tremec in it - would make for an interesting comparison.
Run quarters, do burnouts and cruise - surely there's nothing else that matters! lol :3gears:
