Hey,

Im looking at taking the hatch down the strip next week on a wednesday night meet. Is there anything particular required for Scrutineering.

Do I need a radiator overflow bottle? As im not running one at the moment.

Cheers

YES, you must have a radiator overflow with minimum capacity of 600ml, also make sure you have a decent throttle return spring set up, a decent (firm) brake pedal, & a seat belt that is of roadworthy condition, also long sleeve top, long pants, shoes & a helmet, if you have any queries i asume you could ring the track & they should beable to supply the info you need.
we had a guy turn up at a club day we organised & he was wearing shorts,t-shirt & tongs, he didnt even bring a helmet, he thought the track suplied all the gear required.

Cheers Wayne, I will have to get that sorted. I know about the clothing.

As for helmet I have dirt bike helmets but I think I will go and buy an open face helmet as I want to do some speed events such as hill climbs.

Not bad for $50 if they did supply all the gear lol.

Would motorcycle shops be the best to find a helmet?

Hey Ryan. WSID Scrutineering is a pretty easy and simple process. They mainly check seatbelt retraction, driver seat firmly bolted down, radiator overflow with coolant, and make sure the battery is firmly clamped down. These are mainly all they check whenever I go racing.
As for helmets, I got mine from "On Two Wheels" in campbelltown for about $90. Make sure it is the correct number (AS 1698:2006 is the current i think. Not 100%)

Have a blast mate and dont forget to post times!

Note "minimum 600ml" which is so you can cable tie a coke bottle in!!
Best to do it right and find a UC or A9X style reservoir and fit it. Then you'll always have it when you need it.

LOL fair enough. I thinking about geting a tall skinny polished one and mounting it next the radiator. What are the A9X one like do they mount on the side of the engie bay like the washer bottle.

I will have a look this arvo.

Thats the only thing they picked when entering my first meet,no overflow bottle.

The scrutineer just grabbed the overflow line and shoved it in the washer bottle problem solved he said,

But i guess it would depend on the scrutineer.

good luck you only have to go once and your hooked.Posted Image

Nope, that still fails at Heathcote, Maddy had to put a Coke bottle from her Overflow reservoir. Same with my Ute etc.

Yep, i raced with one similar to that b4 with no problems, they basically don't like the overflow hose that drops to the ground.

I spoke to a bloke down here in Wollongong about helmets for drag racing, track days and he said I need a full face one for the drags. Is this the case?

Im keen to get an open faced helmet.

http://www.wsid.com....ormation(2).pdf

Drivers of vehicles slower than 10.99-seconds (1/4 mile) are permitted to use any helmet (full-face or open-face) meeting one of the following Standards:
 SNELL SA2000, SA2005, SFI 31.2A (USA)
 SNELL M2000, M2005, SFI 41.2A (USA)
 BS 6658-1985
 AS/NZS 1698:2006 or AS/NZS 1698.

So yes, you can wear an open face helmet so long as you don't break that designated time.

There's Sydney City Motorcycles at Kograh, Caringbah Motorcycles in Caringbah and Mitchel's Motorcycles (I think its called that) at Kirrawee on the Princess Highway before McDonald's. Sydney City is a big store with everything and the other 2 mainly specialize in services, some parts and gear. Can get address and details if you like.

I think my helmet cost that. Its a black openface one. I've used it once for the first drag night we had. Happy to sell that to anyone who wants it. Its size L 59-60cm AS1698 Made May 2006 - its gloss black with a small peak visor on it.

WSID have tightened up on the helmet regs in the last 6 months, I've seen them turn people away. I lent a guy my helmet to go through rego once because I felt sorry for him. Just because the helmet is brand new doesn't mean it'll be the right standard, could be old stock. The most common standard is AS/NZ 1698 but the old one was called something similar like AS1698 but its wrong.
