ecu dilemma

im pretty sure the code is in the memcal not the ecu.
so my few questions are
is it true that the security codes are different between vr and vs
will a vr bcm work correctly with the rest of the the car besides the ecu
ive been told the std holden v8 memcals aint tunable but the hsv 185i and 215i chips are. if the std chips are tuneable we could just tune the original memcal.

I don't clain to know all as I have only played with a few, commodore forums would be your best bet but,
VR/VS codes are different.
There are different level BCM's so some things may not function, such as cruise control or wiper dwell??
All memcal's are programmable, even a V6 memcal cam be re programmed as a V8.

with the bcm's i would be using a equivalent bcm but id rather be able to just get the original memcal tuned

You can simply have the memcal changed to ignore the security requirement for the enginewith the bcm's i would be using a equivalent bcm but id rather be able to just get the original memcal tuned

That would work in a torana but in a vr/vs with climate/cruise/power windows etc etc these things may not work.

if the standard VS holden 5.0L memcal is tunable there wont be a problem as we can just trailer it and get it dyno tuned.
or get the VR 215i memcals anti theft disabled
or try a equivalent VR grade bcm with the VR memcal.
but VS run dual stage central locking where VR dosent and there may be sum other little diferences
the biggest problem is that there has been quite a few budget blowouts as all builds and he's quit low on cash and now ive noticed this problem. so he's ready 2 burn the thing. and im trying to work out the cheapest way around this

As above the chips can be rewritten, just need to be UV erased first. Thats neither here nor there as far as cost goes though anyway, a new electronically erasable chip is less than $10if the standard VS holden 5.0L memcal is tunable

Same deal with auto's
VR/VS BSM's are not the same, and are a major job to change.
By far the easiest option is to stick a VS 215i calibration into the VR memcal.
The only physical difference between a HSV and standard memcal is the addition of a knock filter. The code is quite a bit different.
Both are reprogrammable. Neither are 'live reprogrammable' without software modification.
Let me know if you need a hand......
