Hi there,

Iv got 15x8 rims for the front of my Torana and 15x10 for the rear. The car will be flared when i put the wheels on and just wondering what size tyres people are running as i have no idea what size to go with. Photos would be great as well.

Cheers

the best rear tyres are the 285-40-15 matched to 225 50 15 on the front. the 285's are expensive howverever there was a set on ebay recently I believe.

Thanks for that REDA9X. So these fit well under the flared guards?

Most common size people will run are a 265/50 and a 225/50. You can get 265/50's relatively cheap ($225 each?)

You could also go for a 295/50, but they might be a squeeze. 285's and 275's are more uncommon which means very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yep, the 285/40 mentioned above would be nicer on the rear but you need deeper pockets

Does anyone know of a rough price for the 285/40's?

285's fit perfectly
if you run a 265 50 15 on the rear the wall height is 132.5mm
if you run a 225 50 15 on the front, the sidewall height is 112.5mm
a 285 40 is 114mm
whatever you decide to use, you need to conside what the sidewall is going to look like, and how the front tyres will go when you turn the wheel.
you could be up for about $1500 or more for a set of 285's

Yeah, 285/40's are the absolute perfect size for a set of 15x10's on a Torana. Its just the cost as RED and 76lx say.

I would say if you can get them for that price, snap them up, it's not like they will get worn out in a hurry

Hi Mark,

I've got the same size wheels on my hatch - modified GTS rims, front 15 x 8 and rear 15 x 10.

Running 225 x 50 x 15 on the front and 265 x 50 x 15 on the rear.

Here's a photo,

Mick.

As RED says..be aware of the height...compare on Micks car...if thats the look you want..to me...and this is my PERSONAL opinion..it looks to be high in the rear...I like my cars to sit flat..again..down to personal preference..
By the way..NOICE!! Mick....(wasnt it white before???)

Hi Rorym,

The white hatch is still white. I'm like you a multi car owner, the grey hatch is a work in progress (very slow though).

You're right about the height difference, definitely higher in the rear.

I'd like the car to be about 20mm higher in the front and would have preferred a wide 60 series tyre but couldn't find me.

Cheers Mick.

Here's a photo to prove they are not the same car.

Also 265/50 and 225/50, but fronts are only 7" wide (need 8" ones!)

It would be nice to sit a bit more level but I've never seen one that does due to the differences in width and the available space front and rear

Hey mate, with your 225/50's, why would you prefer 8's on the front rather than 7's. You want less sidewall bulge, better handling, more dish???

The reason I ask is that I'm planning to buy a set of fronts for mine at some stage in the future. I want to keep my cheese-cutters (15 x 4's) just for drags, and run either 15 x 7's or 8's on the front for day to day driving. I want to run 225/50's, so it's just a matter now of deciding if I buy 7" rims or 8" rims!

Mainly to fill out the guards for the right look, I'm a fan of big feet and wide track on all corners where possible. Less tyre bulge would also look better and match the rears. The handling is a side issue, I like to throw it around occasionally and the difference in track width is noticeable sometimes but no biggie at present as it handles OK.

It used to have 8s before I changed the wheels and these were advertised as 8s but found they were only 7s when I received them. The upside of the narrower wheel is that bringing the outside of the tyre in a bit means less issues with clearance. I'd like to go to an even wider tyre at the same time but I'd start having to make more serious metal changes to clear at full lock.

I'd say buy whatever is going to best match the look of your rear wheels and tyres.
