I've still got the silver on the parcel shelf & the red oxide & silver
overspray in the boot just below the rear window as well as around the door
openings.
I'll get a pic up tomorrow for ya.

Bit hard to make out, looks like primer grey but its body
colour just that its matt looking. Looks like the vertical
bit under the boot seal lip copped body colour as well as
the hinges at the same level in the open position.

Got me curious now to see if the original blackouts are under
the paint on my car as they seemed to have just sprayed over
the silver. If I get time I'll rub thru the top layer & see
whats there.

Hi Sable thanks for pics mate good to see a guy who will admitt his car's been repainted & is "possibly wrong" i can say i've been to a few torana functions & been told by owners whose "original untouched" car complete with nibs in the paint humity blisters miss matched peel paterns & blatenly f@#ken obvious different colour gaurds ect. it was a old guys un molested gem WTF ??? why lie i say! yep mine was quite complete & repainted wrongly probably by a spray painter who painted all the xu-1's for the local GM Dealer you know the type ! but luckily between mine & my friend's we can pick up a lot of the original finishes. " My advice only "mate dont strip your car of paint ect. until you have made yourself up a log ie floor colour, booster, brakes, gearbox ect. ect. That way you know you ARE RESTORING! this car not assuming or speculating on a mass produced little hottie & That my fiend is what xu1 pashion is about be proud of YOUR piece history. You will never regret the extra few months research & attention to detail. Good luck with your resto mate. P.S. i did not mean to offend any member or spray painter with any of these statements but we've all heard them before, GrumpyI'd be interested too Jesse.

Pics will be appreciated of Aldo's sunburst by me anyway. You may find that there is a differents between Brisbane and Adelaide in the boot jam.
I took notice of this 2 years ago at Torana fest and have pics of them somewhere. The ones I have are non restored cars.
Will try and post the areas I'm talking about by tomorrow night, thats if someone dosn't beat me to it.

Bruce,
Warrigal Black 568 - 6459 is the correct paint colour for the 1972 LJ GTR & GTR XU1 decorative body paintouts.
The only black painted exterior part that wasn't painted Warrigal Black was the door glass division channel (1/4 window channel).
The division channel was painted with Medium Gloss Black 578 - 04149.

Thanks guys,
Problem is there is no record of how to mix these older colours as they were factory colors out of the can (so I am told).
Is 578-4149 the correct color (there has been conflicting information in other threads as well) and is there still a paint mix code for it anywhere? My painter can't locate any of these blacks and believes they were straight out of the can from the info in his books
The main issue is the gloss level - I was thinking of using MIdnight Black (the color that superseded Tuxedo Black which superseded Warrigal BLack) but if the '72 was semi gloss this wouldn't be right either.
Anthony, do have a clearer pic of the front valance area particularly the masking under bumper on the front guards?
Any advice greatly appreciated - my painter has exhausted his resources/books to obyain a correct paint mix!
