what is my diff?

hey im going to upgrade my diff soon and hav been told i currently have a 9" ford by one source and a 8.8" by another source. Are there some numbers on the casing which i can find out which diff i have and if so what numbers correspond to what diff?

take some pics and post them, it's fairly easy to see the difference

Well I know what a 9" looks like, and woukdn't a 8.8" be just a Borg Warner?

The 8.8" diff was originally referred to as 8-3/4" and fitted to Fairlanes and LTDs, is still strong but obviously not as strong as the performance orientated 9".
