Your quick Keith...

I put the photos on Cardomain last night so I could post them here. (BillsUC).

The black car is my son's 350 Chev powered UC. Wish I could have driven one of those to school when I was 17...

That looks great, I have never seen it done - only known people who were trying it.

I don't like the sump/front subframe though, I would have done a dry sump and lowered the engine before doing that to it. A lot of conversion guys I have spoken to won't comply that sort of a substantial mod to the front subframe in Qld.

Those chassis rails have obviously been trimmed back to fit it like that too.

Does it all fit under the bonnet? looks like it would.

Its a custom sump from the rod shop i think, and yes the rails are rolled for a bit of extra room.
This is "conceptss"'s car that i was talking about and he is on here and is in Melbourne!!

Toranamat69 - can you you educate me more on a dry sump i know the basic idea but is it legal/engineerable in vic?????
As i have been quoted $1000.00 for a custom wet sump, any idea what a dry sump setup would be worth.
Dry sump is a better design anyway so if its not to much more it might be a better way to go????
Cheers

Thats the car bango, I lost/deleted those pics off my PC and was looking the last 2 days for them, glad somebody else saved them.

Rails look chopped and x member is scary from a rego/engineers point of view.

My cousin has a spare Toyota Soarer (2.5L Straight 6 Twin Turbo) sitting in his shed, and a spare UC Sitting next to it. Soarer not going (hit a roo), UC not going too healthily. Hmm, 1JZ into Torana...

Not as powerful as the 1UZ, but they still hammer along.

forgot to add, dry sumps are real expensive. ours (sbc) cost 2500 on braided steel hoses plus the pump plus the sump, expensive 30 to 40 hp!!

Id prefer the twin turbo 2.5L then the 4.0L V8 anyday. The turbo destroys the V8 in the soarers all day long.

More interesting photos...

A 1UZ and a SBC side by side.
Those cams sure add to the height and width of the motor, although they are close to the same width at the exhaust ports. (The black cover on the 1UZ is not stock)

A 1UZ with the rear sump.
Still too far forward and clashing with the Xmember.

Front sump on the left, rear sump on the right.

I have the front sump version and will remove the pan and pickup and dummy it into position like that. I haven't looked for a rear sump as it may be easier to build from scratch than modify the existing one. The alloy sump is quite shallow at 68mm deep but overall height may still be an issue.

Might have a look at recessing the firewall a couple of inches as an easier alternative...

Ahhh, I love a challenge!!!

The photos of my Yellow LX hatch are nearly a year old and are from the old forum. I'd mentioned in that old post that the sump/crossmember work was carried out by CRS in 2000. They did a bodgy job (at a legally engineered standpoint) Rod argued that it was a ptototype as he'd never done one before and therefore void of guarantee, if I wanted it to be re done to an engineers standard then I'd have to fork out extra $$. Not happy at all. Woulda/shoulda/coulda done it myself.

The booster is from a sunbird but is in the original mounting position. No dramas with clearance of the cam cover. A V8 booster will go in after modifying the raear of the cam cover and moving the booster mounting position as Toranamat did to his car. I contacted QUADCAM Aust. today. About $880 for a sump to suit a torana and the same price for headers. The sumps are made from 10mm Aluminium sheet for the pan rail and 3 mm sheet for the pan. The only drama I have with them as with the CRS (currently made from steel) sump is that they don't use the original lower bellhousing bolt holes which bolt the bellhousing to the sump. I've not done much to the hatch for a while.

Does any body have a complete UC front suspension/crossmember for sale in Melbourne?

LEXTEME .com PLANETSOARER, 1uzfe.com and v8supra.com have useful links and references. There's a bloke that advertises on ebay that has had stainless steel sumps made for 1uzfe's his user name is elliotaw.

What do you want, the bare crossmember or the whole lot? I can probably help.

RE: LS1LX

The V8 Soarers are also alot heavier. bigger stereo, more electrics, of course the V8. The come with a subwoofer standard.

Old thread I know - there was a metallic blue lj with one engineered although it had an aftermarket ecu which to legaly pass would require it to be tested at a certified emissions facility. Ford used to hire out there dyno/emissions facility - that was the only legal way to certify an aftermarket ecu as long as the certified tune wasn't altered.

CRS off the shelf sumps are crap (last time I checked them out) - last I saw they don't utilise all the original mounting holes or have recesses for the massive oil gallery return drains effectively restricting them by half. They don't utilise all the bellhousing mounting bolts (bottom two are missing) - The deep section of the sump sits too far forward and as the bottom of the block is below the bottom of the crank they may sit too low. Theres no baffling/scavenging and the lowest part of the sump hangs too low.
In all for the money you pay for a CRS and the extra work required to make them work correctly they are definaeately Not worth the money. Quadcams Australia Warwick Qld made a working pattern for a multi fit sump that you simply made your own deep section to suit. There's a guy in Frankston that uses a laser cutter in Carrum Downs vic to cut sump plates to which you weld ap a complete sump from - He made one for his escort from stainless - Steel or up to about 20mm Aly. can be cut. Thicker you go with laser and water cutting the less accurate the profile becomes - sort of like the way a jigsaw blade bends back with the pressure when cutting around shapes - results in an out of square cut.

As the sump on these engines is a stressed component the design and construction needs to be extremely strong and of high quality. The cad drawings for the sump plate aren't al that hard to get hold of ( the exhaust flange drawings are free on lextreme) Not all that difficult but a lot of time is needed to do it.
