Trim 44 is Medium Blue and Black, what does the R refer to? Is it a special insert of some kind on the seats?

Your VIN, if the car was built after 10/72, will tell you the trim level, body type, original motor size, the year produced, which plant it came from and the series ie LJ. Your body no should make up part of the VIN. Your body no indicates it was built in Brisbane. Example VIN: 8C69DCH205338J.

The Body ID plate you got the trim and paint nos from may also have the Eng, Trans and Diff codes along the bottom.

1821 is Glacier White.

I should have said:

Trim 44X is Medium Blue and 44Y is Medium Blue with a Black and White houndstooth seat insert, what does the R refer to?

The Body ID plate you got the trim and paint nos from may also have the Eng, Trans and Diff codes along the bottom if it is the newer type.

Also if you have an older VIN it would be like this: 82569JH205338.

Hi Mick, could you let us know what month of '72 the car was made?(i'm only guessing but comparing the body number to mine, i'd say April '72.) On early cars the last numbers on the vin did not match the body number.
Dr Terry might be able to help with the "R" reference in the trim code, but going by the parts book the 44R rear door trim is only variant listed for 82569 model, if there were other variations of trim there should be additional listings ie there's 40R, 40T, 40U for black trims under 82569, it's likely "SL" trim with no insert.

Thanks for the replies guys, the trim is still the original medium blue with walnut insert & black dash with walnut inserts (now removed but stored) & was originally glacier white. I got the folowing off the other tags on the car this morning -

Built - May 1972

VIN Plate - 82569JH233668

No. Stamped into Body - ALJ05329B

As you can see the Body No doesnt match the VIN as gm3300 said.

Thanks for your help guys, shame i dont have the Tags showing the driveline combo.

I'll add Walnut insert to my list of Trim codes.

With the Body No not matching the VIN it makes it a bit harder to cross check things.

Good luck with sorting out your car.

James
