I was planing on putting the worked 186 I have but I changed my mind and now i am putting in a rebuilt blue 3.3 out of a commy. The blue motor just seemed a better building block for me, as it already has stronger interals and a 12 port headed.

still working out the gear box situation. I have a M20 and a commy 5 speed for it will most likey use the M 20

the motor will get a 4 barrel secondary vac holley 390, s/b chev fuel pump, msd coil and leads , elec dizzy , extractors, and a few other bits.
hopefully a hot cam if the one from my 186 will work

anyway thanks for the intrest

I can't see why the 186 hot cam won't work in the blue motor. All sixes are the same as far as that's concerned I think.

Whereabouts are you located? And what extractors will you be running. Will you convert some 9-port extractors to suit the 12-port head or have some others in mind?

....or maybe Commodore extractors work, but I doubt it.

hey I am looking at trying to covert an old set of 9 ports i have if it does not work I will try to use the dual branch cast manifold that are on the motor ( out of the commy)

I live in New Zealand bro

I was told that a factory 186 cam ( built up and reground) may not work with out having the tail shaft reground I donot know if its true or not but i have not had time to find out yet, anyone know?

I have photos of the cam on an other post ( max rpm for blue motor )

Nice.. The blue engine will be great. I recon theres a bit more torque behind them with there fully counterweighted crank. and the stronger internals are great, No cardboard timing gears
A nice big cam would be sweet :D

commo extractors fit, i used them on my previous engine which was a 12port blue. shouldnt be too hard to convert some 9ports, just need a grinder :spoton:

I put a 12port standard manifold (varajet) on my red engine and it clashed with the red extractors majorly! so much granding haha, u wont have any probs with a 4barell manifold though!

good luck!

Loki on the forums put one in his slr, he used the original commodore mounts, looks like it worked very well. probly a better idea.
