But an LH/LX with a rotary will still suck royal wang

please explain your reasoning behind this. Considering it will be a 1150 kg car with an engine that, naturally aspirated makes 250hp stock , 320 with some porting, will make 400 on stock internals and will make 700 without too much trouble at all.

A 20B LH will have the potential to run easy 10's so how do you justify your statement?

Disqualified - ignore them! They are just expressing their views man - and obviously are not fans of the 20B conversion...

When you start the conversion and run easy 10's, then they may come around! I think that they love thy holy piston too much to see that a rotary motor is not only a well designed and lightweight motor, but can produce more HP and run quicker times than their big 400ci chev's!!

I'm not a rotor fan, but i rekon its gonna be one hell of a conversion!!

Make sure you put up plenty of piccys...

You'd have to mount that in the trailer.

If you like Torrys and rotaries, why not have one of each. Get a nice little RX4 or whatever and a Torana 308 to tow the Mazda to the track.
Now thats the best of both worlds....

No, Actually the rotor is an inheritantly (sp?) better piece of engineering than the piston engine.
I've already stated this.
And the rotary compared to a piston engine of same size/displacement produces more power.

The fact is, a rotary looks [under the bonnet] and sounds utterley shit.
The only good sounding rotors i've ever heard have insanely large bridgeports.

I was a huge fan of my mates RX2 with a 12A (very big bridgeport), it sounded crazier than my worked 308! Problem was his temp guage didnt work, radiator went bust, fused the rotors to the cylinder wall. Boat anchor job --> Got a 20B (yes, not legal in an RX2 except through loopholes). It sounds like complete bee hive horseshit, but it sure does move.

Rotaries suit small looking cars.

I would piss myself laughing at an LH/X that buzzes past me with that rotary sound, regardless of whether it just left me for dead at the lights or not.

An LC/LJ I would think it suits and find it a cool suitable conversion.

Right tool for the right job. You've got the right tool, just do the right job with it.

Sticking it in the LH/X is just bad fashion, colours and clothing types need to compliment each other.
Similarly Cars, the sound they make and bodykits etc. need the same.

P.S. I'd love an RX8 as my daily.

/end rant.

Ive just had a scan of this thread and ive gotto throw in my 2c worth especially after today's experience at Supercruise 11.

Took the HQ out ( and your right chopper.. LACK of economy is right!) and met up with my brother who own a TTV8 Commodore, and his mates who both have turbocharged 13B roatries.

To cut a long story short, we went to birghton to the rotary meet after being at the V8 meet point and while i'm V8 through and through, i admire and respect the rotary cars for what they can do.

It was funny though.. hearing 3 "old school" heavily ported rotaries start up and Braaap out of the car park compared to the purr of the turboed rotaries that we cruised with.

I tell ya... I'm running aorund 330 RWHP and i was hard pressed keeping up with these things! We didnt get to race or anything just a few friendly squirts but one guy has a 10 sec time slip compared to my 12.4... Enough said!

While a rotary is NOT my personal engine of choice.. i respect the power they make and good on the guys who've spent MEGA bucks developing them to what they are today ( which is a massive step from teh hand grenades of a few years back). Personally.. I think a turboed rote in a small torry could be a mean package, I wouldnt do it because i'm not a fan of the engines. That's not to say you shouldnt do it!!

Everyone has put their opinions forward, and i think that while there has been some ruffled feathers Youve all been fairly reasonable. Lets keep it that way hey.. After all it is still a torana we're discussing and there is always more than one way to skin a cat!

Cheers.

Sticking it in the LH/X is like bad fashion, some people just have no clue what clothes go with what.

If somebody proved to me that if I wore a pink tutu my drag car would run faster, I'd do it. Plus a pair of dark sunglasses. A 700 HP rotary wil make 700HP no matter what sheet metal is around it. Heaps of people have told me not to build a drag UC, "use an LC or LJ instead" they say. I ignore them. Or ask them to donate
an LC or LJ.

yeah ok whatever, but my main goal isnt really to make a fashion statement, its more about go than show for me, but each to their own i guess

Sure.
But I'd still laugh.

Just the same as you'd laugh at a ricer with a huge atrocious body kit that looks ridiculous, even if it turns out to be a 8 second 1/4 mile car.

Let's refine this a bit.
If it's going to be drag strip only... Fair enough, anything goes to get down the strip as fast as possible.
But if you're going to make it as a streeter so you can show it off....
LOL.

What's next, 59' Cadillac with a rotary?
