G'day guys, I'm just chasing the general consensus on the old Bumper bar topic for LH/LX's......

Chrome or Body Colour or even Silver?

Whats your opinion?.........I like Chrome (don't really like the cost of good chrome).....and I like body coloured bumpers too, I'm still not too sure on which way to head with my LX, or maybe in Silver??

Whats the factory set-up for colour-coded bars?...SLR5000 only?

Whats your knowledge and whats yours personal preference?

Imho it depends on car colour, painted bumpers dont suit all combinations.

Ultra Blue with standard flareless SLR5000 appearance is my intentions at this stage.....

SLR5000's were chrome with rubber, to my knowledge the SS were the only factory colour coded.

SLR5000's were mostly chrome and rubber. In the LX range the painted bars could be ordered. Not sure if only through dealer though. Have only ever seen factory SS in painted. Option A9X in SLR 5000 and SS 5000 was chrome with no rubber. If you are not painting the blaclouts i would go straight chrome. If you have the blackouts i would go chrome with rubber strip. I think the painted bars look best on a two door.

I think it is largely own preference and conditioning. My UC has painted bars-rubber strips and overiders, never paid much attention to them as done by previous owner, except if I see another same as mine colour torrie with chromed bars they just look wrong!.
Torries in other colours with chromed bars look fine.

body colour needs the rubber strip
I am thinking about going silver in my LH, because I cant afford/find a decent front bumper. and my blue looks really good with the silver lights and grille.

L34 factory = Chrome, no rubber strips or over-riders.

Paint is easier to touch up than chrome plating. But it depends on the look you are chasing.

Chrome all the way, and rubberless if you can manage it.

Chrome is the way to go if you have all the chrome trimmings, if not, go coloured (silver on dark cars, body colour on light ones)...

if its chrome, it needs to have no rubber strip.

I'm curious...
Why?

I think the chrome bumper without the rubber strip (and therefore leaving the track where it should be) kinda looks out.

what I meant was, I dont like chrome bumpers with the rubber strip, I f I had ones with the rubber strip I would try to find some rubberless ones. I agree that a bumper with the rubber removed looks crap because you can see the holes.

What about a dark blue l;ike the new holden astra with painted silver sort of like a flat chrome. No rubber at all and all the holes filled and the bolts removed.

I agree with Loki here, the rubberless bumper bars look unfinished, cheap, tacky and nasty IMHO :) I dare say the rubber was left off for a lighter race appeal?
Definitely looks very unfinished to me.
I prefer chrome over paint but having said that have seen a couple of neat looking painted bumpers.
Please don't take my opinion as being a personal slight against you, I have had that happen recently lol

hey Makka I do like the chrome look but think the Torry bars meant for no rubber should not have the groove in them where the rubber normally would go. I guess GMH didnt want to manufacture or buy in a number of different bars.

Cheers

Think we've got just about every variation here!
Do agree that something looks astray without the rubber strip, but thought that was due to me being used to looking at my own UC's which all have them, agree that the leaving the groove blank could be intepreted as like you got the cheaper S model in the UC.
On the UC the cars also have the moulded strip down the sides which is basically a continuation of the rubber bumper strip as it is ~the same size and is the same height from the ground.......another cosmetic consideration.
