Only combo missing is whether they suit a hatch or a sedan!!!!!!

Also wheel combo makes a big diff too.

In my humble opinion ......

Chrome suits darker colours, but needs 'chromier' wheels.

Silver/matt chrome suits anything, but looks better with alloy, unpolished wheels.

Painted suits lighter colours and solid colours, not metallics and any wheels.

Having said the above so many examples come to mind that screw this up!!!

A car with few details suits the rubberless bumper, where as a detailed car
with decals, chrome window surrounds, badges etc suits rubber bumper.

I'm gonna stop as I keep comming up with examples that dont fit this!!

Do what ever looks best eh?! LOL

Actually, it looks more 'right' than just straight painted would :/
the rubber strip breaks up the yellow, which is a good thing.
And I dont think chrome would really suit it since you have dark tinted windows and what looks like black surrounds [which the painted + black rubber suits] and no chrome anywhere else.

Yep, an old debate.

I am going painted with rubber strip.

Might even look at getting some over-riders.

Im having my LX painted at the moment. I have 2 sets of bumpers and 2 sets of door handles (8), so im having both so i can change down the track. I like chrome but I think you also need chrome door handles to balance it. Same with body coded, i think you also need blackouts and black door handles with coloured bumpers. So im doing a set of each...

One of the best looking LH - X 4 doors I've seen was / maybe still is Chrysler Electric Blue (slightly darker than Ultra), blackouts only on bonnet, window surrounds and taillight trims, no flares, scoop or spoiler, polished Draglites, chrome bumpers with no rubbers, stainless door / window trims and chrome door handles, owned by Michael Portelli in an old 'Torana Fever No. 1' magazine. Shame about the Bugcatcher sticking out the bonnet but...

If I had a scanner I'd show you what I mean.

I've got silver painted bumpers on the HZ, not sure they'd look good with Ultra Blue. I think colour coded with rubbers would be second best option. Each to his or her own though.

I think Leakey touched a godo point with depends on wheels combo.

i think chrome wheels and chrome bumpers look great, but as everyone has said, they are the pretty expensive.

i cant seem to find any photoes of toranas wirh black chrome or even semi gloss bumpers with colour matching wheels.  with a dark coloured car, this could look good.

Often thought about not being allowed to the Chrome Bumper runs.

Bummer.

I love old school chrome but since buying the hatch and being black with black bars I love it,

Same with all SS hatches I think it makes them stand out that little bit more

Its not as if there plastic

Used to own two SS Hatchback with there factory painted bumpers and a 1977 LX SLR5000 with factory painted bumpers, looks the good the painted bumpers, and a Black SS Hatch with Black Bumpers, looks evil and mean.

OK, so if we paint over Chrome,

how do we do that without damaging the Chrome, and the paint sticks.

Seems the RAT will have Dark Grey Matt Paint:-

Got to have chrome Bumpers still hey, but with a protective Painted layer over them
