It is a rare factory optioned 253 benchseat Kingswood model.Unique white duco with much sought after patina.
These cars utilise the same rear shackle bushes as the more common garden variety Sandman.
The rust is only minor,
so with a bit of elbow grease and a few flattened out soup cans,I should have her back in tip top shape in no time at all.
Im open to suggestions regarding how I should attack this rare motor car.
Does anybody think it would be wrong to modify it as it is an unmolested matching numbers unit?
Im kind of leaning towards jamming a blue 173 into it to tidy up the engine bay a bit.
Probably some taller tyres on the back to help save on fuel as it will always be running downhill.
All opinions and suggestions will be carefully considered,
Thanks in advance,Craig.

Is that tongue in cheek or did the shackle bushes actually vary between utes/tonners?These cars utilise the same rear shackle bushes as the more common garden variety Sandman.
I didn't realise that there even was a tonner style Kingswood, very interesting.

Sarcasm!!! Ute, Van, Cab & Chassis, all the same shackle bushes.
There wasn't! All HJ,X,Z 1 tonners came with HQ style front panels with commercial grille.

Don't worry too much about the body, most of that will buff out. Plus, at least there's only rust in the metal. The winscreen itself looked to be quite rust free.
One thing though, does it still have the original wiper blades? Might make it worth a bit more to a collector : )

strap a 10lb bottle of nitrous to the rear chassis rail, 100hp shot down the carby and take it to power cruise,
It will go so fast you'll leave the rust behind, end up with a nice bare chassis and running gear.
are you seriously gonna attempt to fix that heap of snot?

When I got back, obviously the tyres need replacing (bloody horsepower.....) ,so I parked out the front and quickly ducked around the back to grab a fresh set of bags.
Talk about learning the hard way....
I was only gone 5 minutes, theres no flys on the kids around here...
BASTARDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes the base model had commecial grillle and ugly trailer indicators on the nose cone BUT options were available! e.g. premier nose, bumpers indicators etc were supplied in HQ style.
The 1 tonner panel shape only changed at the WB series, however radial tuned suspension, dashboard gauges changed with each model. My HZ tonner came factory standard with twin head light, premier nose, bumpers etc.

Dont think your passenger headlight is too weel lined up is it ?
thats normal for a shooting ute... you need to have one headlight up looking out for the possums
