Yeah I don't think it looks quite right with the flares or the bonnet scoop. Black bonnet and door frames look good though.

Thats awesome. I wonder if its much lighter than a sedan or hatch? Taking it to a weighbridge could be worthwhile if theres one nearby.

Jesus christ everyones jumping on this with their opinion so I'm gonna jump on too. I reckon widened and chrome plated Torana steelies with eagers or T/As or something with white lettering would look grouse. And some sort of metallic paint job, maybe a cherry or voilet colour although some punters will probably reckon thats a foul idea.

Theres alot of cool mods here and there on it by the looks. Alot of work just for 'shits and giggles'.

Thanks for the Photoshop pic. I really like it. That's what I'd do, but I understand how expensive fat wheels and tyres are. I guess a droptank is out of the question then? They don't look quite right if they're not sandwiched between two fat tyres IMO. You'll just have to use you're shiny new sheetmetal folder to make ME one then :)

Well I did a quick photoshop using my old LH SLR5000 as the base, as it already has the flares and barbados green paint.

It's a rough pic, but you get the idea.

That looks A LOT better than i thought it would.

I think the photoshop pic looks pretty cool, but will be too dear for wheels and tyres, plus I like it as it is.

Mini tubs are a no go in Qld according to my mod plate guy, so that's off the table too.

The first thing I have to do is pull the buckets out and make a bench seat for it. I'll worry about the body later.

What seems to be the going price for a pair of 14 x 10 inch hotwires these days, anyway? Do they come in 15 inch?

as much as I love flares painted bumpers etc I think this car would really suit old school

chrome bumpesr, white roof, pastel colour body and steel rims or skinny old fashion mags and big ugly mudflaps oh and a venetian blind in the back window and a big ugly sun visor thing above out from the front windscreen a real stock grand dads ute.

thnk about everyone will want it and think if I had that I would...

Oooooohhh! The sarcasm is so thick I can taste it! Spot on cruiza, it's too good of a base to be a grandad car. Send it up to me, Dirtbag. I'll make sure it becomes a torana again. :)
ps. I just had a thought, if it's wheels and tyres that is holding you back, I think we need to pass the hat around..... I'll give you $50. That's all I can afford without getting a divorce. If we can get all the interested parties involved than you could get the fat wheels. Only one condition........... SHOTGUN!!!!! :)

Hahaha Kush!!!

So am I to believe that because it might not have flares makes it a grandpas car? I think there'll be a few forum members unhappy with that label on their unflared torana :badabing:

Having said that, I'm perfectly happy with the label, because at least I now have a torana to put a label on

seriously the flares are the defining feature of the torrie. I get the tyre cost but seriously it looks weak without them.

as for the scoop same thing. oh and these are opinions. and like a$$holes everyone has one.

what about just going with the front spoiler, a bright colour and the LH SLR stripe down the top of the guard and black around the side windows, I reckon a black bonnet looks odd without a bonnet scoop. keep the steel rims but paint them gunmetal or get hold of some gts wheels, infact I know someone who might have some widened GTS wheels and tyres of you want to go down flared, bonnet scoop, black bonnet route

I did a couple of tiny things to the ute today. Excuse this next lot of pics. I took them with my phone.

It's a pity to be pulling these seats out, as they look pretty good, but I want a bench seat, so out they go.

Posted Image

There's a nice useable space behind the seats too. Much better than an HQ : )

Posted Image

I also changed the steering wheel. I think it looks better, and my big fat body fits in easier too : ) ahahaahha. I have to get rid of the wood grain dash though.

Posted Image

I really don't like it when the headlight surrounds and grill are all black, or all silver. I like black with a silver trim. Something looks weird with my hand in the shadow : )

Posted Image

The ute saying hi to the 69 camaro : ) Actually, the phone takes more accurate pics than my camera. This looks more like the actual colour than the camera pics took.

Posted Image

That looks a lot better in my opinion.

It's not much, but it's a start.

Still waiting on the price for that speco shifter!!!!!!! : )

my old man had an XR falcon wagon that he fitted bucket seats to, he also wacked in this arm rest inbetween that unfolded into a center seat, it was cool and me being the smallest thats where I got to sit when it was a full car, you should getone of those if you can find one, I could ask the old fella if he has a photo of it if your interested. I really like the current buckets, what are they from?

I just sms'd the bloke about the wheels, when he replys I will let you know whathe said

Mmmm, woodgrain dash brings back memories of my first Torana.

Mmm, that shadow is trying to say something, can't quite work out what it is!!!

^ Agree there Evil UC, maybe get the back swab out of a Commie or something so you can have a fold down centre bit. Interesting idea.

Thanks Jason re wheels. I did think about a fold down bench as my mum and dad had one in their HG prem, it had the big centre arm rest that could flip upright creating a bench seat, but the seats are too high and my head hits the roof big time, so it's going to be easier to just build the bench from scratch so I can actually fit in it comfortably.

The seats are from a jap car, but reshaped and trimmed to match the rest of the inside and sitting on torana runners. I'll keep them, as they're in great nick. I can't remember exactly what they're from though. They have reclineable backs, and the lever to slide the seat forwards and backwards is on the side, not the front. Does that help???

I reckon something looks not quite right with the shape of the back window,or maybe Im looking for more of a HQ type back-of-the-turret design in my mind.

I like it otherwise, hope you are not offended.

Hahaha! I told you before that you're gonna have to cut a hole in the roof to poke your melon through! Consider it a sunroof :)
nice work on the grill and lights, too. It brings it to life a bit more. Also, every now and then, I see someone selling a torana bench seat on eBay. But you've probably already half built the seat by now I suppose. :)

^^^ If you don't, I will take you of my friend thing in my profile. And you're the only one I got. What will I do then? I can't be friends with Bomber because he is an enemy of the flares. I'll be friendless :(
I was gonna send you a Christmas card this year :(

Well, I really can't see me putting flares on it. It's just not what I want from this car. It's interesting enough as it is as far as I'm concerned. It will probably get a front spoiler, and I'll be making a steel 4 inch cowl scoop and welding it into another bonnet. I have some GTS mirrors for it thanks to my brother, and I want to change the front indicators.
I'll consider changing the wheels, but I have no idea what I want instead, so for now the volvo wheels can stay. I really have to get my brothers car, the camaro and the shed done before I can spend serious time on this one, so there's plenty of time for me to decide exactly what I want.
As for the bench seat, using a torana bench will leave me with the same problem I have now - no head room. I'm going to build one from scratch to suit me.

I actually took it for a drive today. It's been a long time since I'd driven a torana. It was great. I'm so stoked I have it. Thanks again Kev for posting the ad. I owe you one.
