Hi all,

I was wondering if I could tap into this knowledge base and ask for the details of the people who have entered this years Targa Tassie in a Torana or an Aussie Muscle Car of some sort. I'm brewing up a piece for AMC Magazine and it could be a good opportunity for the entrants to get their car in the mag, especially if it's a bit spectacular.

If you know them, please email me on chris<at>bowdensown.com.au
(change <at> to @)

Thanks, Chris :D .

Edit: Decreasing your SPAM content, Chris.

This is all too hard (for me anyway). Below is a link to the full listing - our special cars are in the classic competition. Good stuff varies from Shelby GT350 Mustang, a Qld XU1, 3 A9Xs. LXSS, 69 GTS Monaro, GTHO, XWGT, a Fiat Abarth. Can't forget the 1988 Giocattolo Group B and 3 Daytona Coupes, in the modern with P Brock in one of the Daytonas. And a lot of porsches - a real lot.

Good thing this year is that the list also has a photo of the car and some of the drivers and navigators.

just watched the cars driving around hobart, the toranas
are a bit thin on entries this year, but the hatch's sound really
good so they really attract attention. It is so good for an older
fella to see these so close and even follow them around as they
head back to the hobart casino tonight, only one lc xu1 type
spotted, and the torana s model red coupe looks a bit below
standard but good on them they are in it.
At the end of the last stage we stood at the checkpoint and could
nearly touch the cars as they came through, brocky as always is
the one everone wants to see, some cars threw caps for the kids.
years gone we would see 20 or more torana's lc-lx's a bit quiet this
year, sorry no pics might go to the display area at the casino tonight,
brocky signs bits etc so might have tea there too. some of the old
fords sound very tough with the side pipe as well. weather has
been glorious for them.
a lot have video camera's set up in the car as well.

$5500 entry I think plus all the logistics of doing it for a week, big bucks for a worker! I worked it out at $12000 for the event I think last time I looked.

By the way Chris, I totally agree with your Dad in AMC about the "Tony Rule" and I need to point out I am your illegitimate brother you dont know about and I am moving into the spare bedroom this weekend.! :tease: (I was driving the XU1 to Noosa Historic in Nov and passed you going the other way in Moffats XW GTHO (64E?) Bris side of the Cooroy turnoff. Just wondering did the old man know you 2 gurus were out in it grinning like monkeys?? See you at Wheels on WideBay)

I'll have pics of all the torana's in action at the taroona and hobart domain stages latter this week. the hatches were all very impressive but lc/lj's were very thin on the ground only the two mentioned a smick little yellow xu-1 and a red lj s. i agree that the red lj was a bit below standard it had no bumpers, aftermarket front indicators what looked like a 20 year old respray and a less than classy set of hotwires...however it was good to see another 2 door out there amongst it. but it did make me think that if this car of this standard had been excepted into the field that the organisers do have a soft spot for them so people with less than perfect cars but shouldnt be affraid of enteering if they have the $$$ and are keen i always asssumed you needed a gtr or xu1 to be excepted but obviously not

I reckon the Yellow XU1 will be Greg Burrowes from Carindale in Brisbane. He used to run the XU1 in NC in LinaMint. They ran it last year.

It's expensive but great fun. I was pit crew for the RAAF team in 1996. I may have some old pics somewhere. We were lucky, a herc flew us down lol. At the time there was one A9X hatch and the ex Collin Bond rally L34 entered, plus a nice white SS hatch.

Thanks for the info guys! Rory, you're going to have to take a number mate, we'll get to you soon. Glad you liked his take on the Tony rule, we have been getting a lot of positive response about it! Might see you at Wheels on wide bay, I only just found out the track is under a K long WTF!?

Cheers, Chris.

Can someone host a video clip for me. I have a clip from last year of the catlin and catlin mustang, Coady's 350 hq monaro(extremely tough car 680hp) and an L34 getting very sideways. And ..DO turn the volume right up. :spoton:

Chris,
Wheels on WideBay I am told is organised by the guys that started the Gatton Sprints. Track is 978m, remember Speed on Tweed is 800m too. Should be fun though. We will just keep the V8s smoking all the way and entertain the crowd.
