Hi Guys.

L20 = 202/3300 6-cyl engine
M15 = 3-sp all synchro manual (col shift)
GV7 = 3.55 rear axle ratio

The Opel gearbox was used in HR, HK, HT, HG & LC series Holdens sold in Australia. The last remaining stock was fitted to LJ Torana left-hand drive export cars.

The origin of the Opel gearbox was in late 60s Opel cars like the Kadett & Opel GT etc. Interestingly, according to Norm Darwin (author & ex-GMH employee) the Opel gearboxes used in Holden were actually manufactured in the Philipines, probably in the same factory which made the Torquemaster as seen in LH, LX & UC as well as VB to VK Commodores.

All of the engines, gearboxes & rear axle assemblies used in HB, LC4, LJ4 & TA were imported from Vauxhall UK & were different to both Aussie & Opel units of the time.

Yel327, why would it be a Salisbury behind a 202 in an HJ ute ?

Oops! Should teach me to think with blinkers on! Rob was previously talking about 1-tonners so I put 2 and 2 together and may have got 5...Rob, is it a tonner or a coupe utility? If it's a tonner it's a Salisbury. If it is a ute it'll be a banjo.

Hi Rob.

I thought I covered that with this:-

"All of the engines, gearboxes & rear axle assemblies used in HB, LC4, LJ4 & TA were imported from Vauxhall UK & were different to both Aussie & Opel units of the time."

So the L13 engine in a TA would be a 1300cc Vauxhall 4-cyl OHV unit, similar to the old 1159 HB engine.

The L13 code is strange because all of the official literature I have calls it the L60 in that model.

sorry if you already had i must have missed it.yes L13 for sure. i thought it may have been a gemini engine as thats what the ta was a fillgap for.but it sure is a small engine and gearbox i reckon a strong bloke could just about lift it out
