the only way to strip a car properly imho, is to get all the panels acid dipped, sand blast the inside and underbody only, and the use a chemical paint stripper on the exterior off the body.

had my car garnet blasted by a good operator, and the panel beater had heaps of issues with stretched panels. bonnet, hatch, doors all required some serious shinking and beating to put back to it's former glory.

your call, Sam.

Obviously wasnt a good operator, and no one who has horror stories mentions what the car was like under all the bog before the blasting....Hehehe :stirpot:

Cheers.

a 36/80 grit sandpaper pad on a 9" grinder will do the same job just takes a little longer

My plan was just to have the doors, bonnet, boot lid, front guards and the nose cone blasted... (Everything removable) And the rest of the car, I'm going to the old fashioned way, paint stripper follow by a Sh!t load of sanding!!!Posted Image

Good or bad idea??? Any thoughts???? Posted Image

Cheers

That's the way i did my last Torana & how i'm doing my SL/R although after reading some of the posts in this thread even i'm starting to get concerned about how i'm going to strip the bolt on panels for repair & paint. Might be doing the whole car the old fashioned way now.

Just had my torana soda blasted and couldn't be happier with the results. The process isn't exactly cheap but when you weigh up the time involved in paint stripping and sanding by hand the end result was well worth it.I did research before deciding on soda,it's easier on panels and leaves a film to slow the rust if it's not painted straight away. This is easily removed with soapy water and vinegar before paint prep. The only real downside I can see is it doesn't clean the rusty bits but they can be clearly seen for repair. It's Dion @ Sunstate soda blast from Strathpine,he's mobile and does it at a good price. 0457371380
