Has been a busy term as we near the end of yr 12 major projects, I took the race car class to visit our sponsors and look at sending them out for work placement in term 3. Our sponsors gave the class a tour of all the aspects that are involved in running their business as well as advice on staying employed. The Car is hopefully off next week to get painted. It’s been a long time coming especially with all the bodywork it required, but finally we were able to mount the body back on the chassis.

Recently we had a breakfast at The Shed; unfortunately not all the sponsors could make it. It was a great opportunity for the boys to show off what they had done and plan work placement and future programs and direction for the project.

But the best thing is it is off to Sultans Automotive to be painted. also there is a story in Custom Vans and Utes issue 44, I have ordered some copies but have yet to receive them.

We are coming to the end of this years HSC projects, and with the tonner at the spray shop we have been turning our attention to the trailer and a few other areas.

Major projects are managed and produced by year 12 students. I have 17 Automotive projects and portfolios to get the kids through and at times its akin to three steps forward and two back. here is a small sample.

This Bonnet is intended for the outside wall of the Shed once the marking is done.

The Trailer is getting closer. all welding has been done by 14 & 15 year old year 9&10 students.

Trailer looks like it will be a heavy bastard, what are you planning to tow it with?

Yes tilting trailer.

Chris, the school bus is stickered with the school logo etc so it will be towed with that, as it can also transport the kids to and from the track.

Yeah as Mitch said its tilting and will be towed by the school bus. according to the plans we are building it to, it should weigh approx 730kg. The car is at Sultans Automotive who are painting it. I saw it this morning and while its not quite show quality its definetly going to have a presence.

I thought those buildings looked farmiliar, I did grade 7 and 8 at Miller about 15 years ago before moving to Qld.

I seemed to get the raw end of the stick and got sewing and cooking for most of it, and a short stint of woodwork in the beginning of grade 9 before I left. I did however get some drawing classes and loved it and continued it right through school, even considered taking up archecture at uni, but got into welding and loving that now

its good to see your going the extra mile for the students, an oppertunitity I would have love to have in school

The Car is back at school and I cant thank the guys at Sultans enough, not only did they paint the car for us, but during the last couple of weeks they have hosted a lot of the boys on workplacement. Today we were invited to their workshop to see the car in all its glory and to have a celebratory BBQ. Im guessing the one tonner is on a lot of facebook walls tonight, This really is a big milestone in our project and definetly has the boys excited and eager to get stuck in and put it back together. I still require more than a few parts but we have feelers out for help with the exhaust and fuel system and all new bolts are going in to it,

Just a little idea on lifting the LS1's (with the intake still on)....I made these metal lift plates, they clear all the intake stuff and let you lift it a little bit more evenly... just an idea :)

(Of course with my Edelbrock intake now they will no longer work, ha ha...)

We have made a bit of progress this week, ABC News have contacted us and want to do a story about the project on tomorrow nights News (Friday 7th sept), so we have pushed it forward and it now looks like a car again. the boys are so proud and are constantly asking to bring their friends to have a look.

I have also started a facebook page https://www.facebook...ghSchoolRaceCar

Its all coming together!

Like the facebook page dad put up on post 93. Theres new pics going up as progress goes along. Im sure he will pop along shortly :)
