Well its a Vauxhall chevette 2-door hatch and started life with a 1256 4 cylinder.
I hope it will eventually finish with a turbo 202 5-speed with hilux diff.
To get it up and running we are going use a slightly warmed black motor that will be moved back so the front of the engine will be inline with the front wheels.

Car was given to me for nothing and I picked it up Saturday.

Before we go too far time to size up the big block 202 Posted Image
We used an old dummy block - we just need to take a bit more out in the centre for the head and etc.

You can see the corners where we plan to strengthen it up with 2mm then strengthen it further with rollcage and tunnel
Attached File  DSC06751 (800 x 600).jpg   130.44K   0 downloads

The engines mounts will end up in one of the strongest parts of the car, front corner and next to the front of the rollcage, pretty happy with this

Time to get the front cage bent so we can build the engine mounts off it.

Nice one. I always thought these were pretty cool, although I'm a bit fonder of the Kadetts because these look a bit too 'modern' lol

Will be watching with great interest

Yea probably would but we are making this from bits and pieces lying around my garage, the 202 block is the original one I bought for my LC and has a decent street cam, the manifold, flows, 4-barrel, gearbox, flywheel, clutch and head are also ready to bolted on. The Turbo is off a toyota and is around at my mates. his way we dont have to This was the idea that we would try and make a drag/autocross/sprints car for under $1k probably more like 1.5k but it shold be a torquey thing and pull well out of corners.

Cheers
Graham

Put in some 3mm plate in the front corner of the car to add some rigidity as the engine mounts will be in this corner as well as the rollcage.
Posted Image

The rest of the floor will be flat, we sized up the motor, gearbox and seating last night, its going to be sweet.
We also figured out a simple way of doing engine mounts so engine comes out under car Posted Image
Posted Image

Engine will sit about 3-4 inches forward and about an inch lower when we finish

Done some more to this, getting ready to mount the hilux pedal box and steering and build the new firewall allowing plenty of room beside the engine.
