Hi folks

Sorry about the repost but I am not having much luck chasing this one down.

Please see my original query below.

Thanks

Hi Bazza, i've been looking through the parts book to find a reference to this spring, there's listings for the 4cyl models, but i can't find any for the 6 cyls in the LJ Book.

In the LC book there is a listing for the 186X for a
SPRING-Return-2816970 (which is the one from the torsion rod to the bracket on the firewall)
but there is also a listing for the 3 return springs for the individual carbs as well
SPRING- Throttle return-7194682.

When the 2850 engine was introduced on the LC the return spring was moved from the end of the torsion rod to a bracket on the carb for the standard 6 cyl models, which carried over to LJ, so it's possible the LJ XU1 reference was omitted from the book at the time of printing.
If you have a copy of the book "Spotlight on Torana" (Marque Books) there's a pic on page 64 which shows the spring fitted.
If i find a good pic i'll scan and post it.

Thanks gm3300

Any help appreciated. Notice in the picture that I posted how the present spring on mine actually touches the fuel line. Even with a new spring like the one on eBay, it seems that it would still touch the fuel line. Something has to be wrong although the fittings (firewall bracket and torsion rod) seem to be correct.

Thanks for the pics mate - I really appreciated them.

I am sure it will work out in the fullness of time.

I am interested in the further comments from XU1 owners.

I think you will find the return spring and firewall bracket is on early LJ XU1s like someone has already posted in the first thread. Also early LJ XU1s have rubber fuel lines that clear the return spring as shown on page 64 (spotlight on torana LC-LJ)

Thanks gtr-xu1

Mine is 10/72 so I am still none-the-wiser as to the correct setup for metal fuel lined models. Do they still use the firewall bracket or some other anchor point?
