My cousins UC has currently got a worn Trimatic, and he wants to replace it with a 3 speed manual. The manual is in an HQ, will the clutch assembly etc. etc. bolt into the UC?

Cheers, RIM

Did UC ever come out with 3 speed? Can't say as I've seen one but could be wrong. If so may have to fit floor shift. Auto column shift wont suit manual.

Ive got a floor shifter for it. The only reason he's goin for a 3 speed is that he doesnt want to spend any money on it, and therefore cant get a 4 speed. we have a few 3 speeds layin around. Any idea about the peripherals fitting?

He doesnt want another auto.

The question was, do the Clutch assembly and other bits required for a manual conversion from an HQ fit onto a UC?

And how will it be cheaper? we can do the conversion ourselves, for nothing, and if the bits are interchangeable, we have them all sitting in our private car yard

They did make 3 speed column shift UC torana's, I used to have one. Bellhousing and clutchfork from a HZ is also the same as UC, possibly commodore too.

uc torana, late hz 6cyl, wb 6cyl, very very late lx and early commodore had a cable operated clutch. the clutch cable hooks onto the clucth pedal and hooks onto the clutch fork. the cable adjustment is on the outer case of that cable.

It is true, the UC was available with the 3 on the tree. The ones Ive seen have the complete steering column and steering wheel that was fitted to the LX, it must have been too much trouble to colour match the column change arrangement. So perhaps the pedals would be the same as the LH/X as well, with no need for the hook that the UC clutch pedal would have for the cable. The mounts could be different too, though possibly not as the UC also accommodated the 4 speed m20(most likely on the 202's) which was also non cable clutch.

Hi Guys.

The UC did have the 3-speed column shift box available, as all series of Torana 6 did. The column is the proper UC column, an LX one differs as it doesn't have the wiper stalk.

GM-H wouldn't have colour matched the column to the interior, because it was only the base (S) anyway.

The clutch operation had the same linkage set-up for all LH/LX/UC M15 & M20 boxes up to around Dec 78 when they changed to the Commodore style cable set-up. The pedal is different for the cable set-up.

Dr Terry.
