Looks great now the grill is in and the other bits getting done, you must be stoked with the results of your work,it looks very very nice.

Yeah, I can't believe its in one piece! However, now I'm dreading pulling it apart to change the front end.

Awesome job man, its come a long way!

This car sure brings back memories. Funny story about this car, I almost bought it (and sort of did!).

I sms'ed Rory and spoke to him briefly and said I wanted to buy it and about a week later I sent him the money.
In that time you must've paid him as well or something.

There was a massive miscommunication, Rory called me up and was like "I just sold it, didn't know if you were serious".
I was pretty devastated, Rory sent me back my money like a gentleman and I went off and found an LJ in bundaberg hahahahaha

I dearly miss owning a torry looking at this project

I was talking about you and this story just yesterday (Rory told me about it at the time).... thats not weird at all (?)

So you got one after all but you don't have it any longer? To be honest after I got it home, got it stuck in second gear and saw some of the rust underneath the car while unjamming the linkages I would have onsold it for what I paid. All sorted now though

Not raining today and have the house to myself so have made some progress! Been able to pull out the drum brake front end and swap it over for a disc brake one. Damn those front ends are heavy.

Have to do the brake lines, booster, etc yet and it still has the filthy dirty 173 in it at the moment - one thing at a time

Pretty weird! I was thinking about Toranas the other day and decide to visit gmh-t. Haven't logged in for near 6 months, when before I used to log in every day. Yeah long story short I ended up with an XU-1 replica. Did this and that to it, drove it, made friends, enjoyed it, crashed it, fixed it, sold it, learnt from it.

New owner bought it for much cheaper than I sold it at and crashed it a few months later. Now I'm just riding my motorbike around.

It's come a long way then, I had no idea how much rust it had. I just wanted it because it was a 2 door, I had planned to change everything anyway.

Looks like you are on the right track

More rust repairs, this time at the point where the front cross member brace goes back and bolts on at the chassis next to the foot area. Think this is a pretty common area for rust I think, but someone may find this useful. This is worse than the rust I had in the 4 door, requiring replacement of the crush tube.

Here I'm showing the new plate with a welded on crush tube. Used a piece of gal pipe which I ground off the gal where I welded it. Dumped some anti rust solution in behind the plate before welding. I also reversed the direction of the bolt to make it easier to remove when the exhaust is fitted (very difficult when collectors of extractors sit right at that position)

Have now had the seats re-trimmed. They didn't exactly turn out the colour I imagined, being more beige than cream. They were supposed to match the dash pad but there done now! Originally Antique Saddle I think, by comparison it is now closer to Taupe off my colour chart from Fabtex at Yatala here in QLD.

I'm getting closer to being finished, but did find a bit more rust in the chassis rail when I cleaned underneath with the water blaster. Have cut out a section just in front of the rear suspension lower swing arm and cleaned a heap of crap out of the chassis rail - a whole dustpan of dirt and sand. Its in the curved part of the rail which will make replacing it that much more fun.

Getting scuff plates powder coated metalic silver at the mo.

Then still need to wire up the fuel pump, get some more fuel hose, sort out wiring and position of fans, finish off carpet and find a steering wheel that I like. There's probably more that I come across still

Thanks mate. Kinda boring in a way I guess being cream/beige, with brown but I like it to be subtle

Thanks for that.

Have some more fix up pictures - rust cut out from chassis rail. For the replacement piece, I cut a chassis section out of a spare bit of boot floor and cut slots in it so I could close it up into a curve and then weld it in that shape to suit the car.

I cut about another 10cm's (of the flat section only) out before I finished off this bit. Its turned out ok so far.

I now have registration! Been a long time coming. Car handles a bit rough and needs a wheel alignment, then some cruising. Fairly loud but.

Had a bit of a drive today. Ended up feeling hot and with a headache. Must be getting soft eh?

Had a small problem getting enough fuel but now sorted - replaced an original spring type hose clamp with a screw type one as I think it was drawing air and fuel. One thing I like about having a glass fuel filter between the pump and carby is that I can see what the fuel is doing.

Also replaced the cigarette lighter socket as the old one must have had a short as blew the fuses as soon as it was connected.

All the crap/dust that was in the heater box has now been deposited over the dash! Other than that, everything seems to be as it should be

my favourite pic so far - Picture from Munchies at Acacia Ridge (with random people in background). The car has been on the road for about a month now.
