When the gear knob alone costs $65, that's a serious bit of kit.

G force T5 hadles the same power as TKO 600 A grand cheaper.
or a G force kit to put in a second hand T5 kit is $1300

Yella terra fly wheel $300

hard core clutch from Sunbury clutch and brake off Ebay think I payed $350 for mine.

Bellhousing kit from CRS or Dellow around the $550 with X member.

By my time sheet at the drags I have 420 HP and use a standard T5, if treated ok a standard T5 would be up to the job. Any where from $100 to $450

Under dash pedal unit ? X member $225 what the.

If the money is there to spend the TKO and bellhousing would be ok but the price for some of the other stuff is a bit steep.

You can do a lot cheaper if you source most of the stuff your self, Centreforce clutch from the states is $300, hydrolic thrust is $145. High torque starters are $200 tops. Speedo cable is standard powerglide, turbo 350 with ford T5 mustang speedo gear and adaptor. A lot of the bits there are as said over priced.

When you can get a Tremec T56 for 3K, I think the box is the wrong choice.

As said a T5 is way cheaper, even get an old one, get it reco'd and beefed up should still only end up costing just under 2K, easily handle 400 HP.

Outsource absolutely everything... All the time, and ask around every single person in the phone book.

I suppose it depends on how he wants to go about it, a TKO & CRS bell housing is a hassle free fit but cost more, Im sure you have to do tunnel modifications to fit a T56 & T5 but cost less.
Just a thought.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you do, but thats pretty straight forward as well, still pretty cheap, just cut a channel out and then put some new metal in, rounded to meet the existing tunnel, with some bracing channel at the back of which, would probably take someone 5-6 hrs and approx $50. Still the better option in my opinion.

But you are right, however he wants to go about it.

Ford 6cyl T5 only needs the shift hole making a little longer to clear the shift housing, or lower the box slightly. No other tunnel mods required.

If you want to use the console, you cant go modifying things too much other wise it wont fit.

It depends on the budget you are running on, if its in your budget and what you want, then go for it.

When in, it should look something like this :buttrock:

theres some interesting info here...

buget has to be under control as like most of us we want the best but ...how much $$$$$

the t5.... this was in Commodore and fords ...behind 6cy? most of what you are talking about i am having to research sorry if i can have a input what modle or year should i look for with the t5??

i had to start some where with this... i have no problem altering the floors as i have to replace them any way.

i come back into this car building after a 30 year break developing a family...:))

at 52 theres much to learn the project was to have started 2 years ago but thing when a bit off track ..but all good now.

i have 2 hatchbacks a lx and a uc my original plan was the uc lx convertion as i wanted to custmise every thing about it but then the lx came up
except for the floors the car is rust free...after thinking about it for a year or so i wounder weather i should continue with the uc convertion rather than the lx as the lx would make a great restoration project for a enthusiast who want the original deal.... where i would possably be changing somethings aout the lx.. i know can hear now ...i will have the hatch if you dont want it ...not made up my mind yet..

many thanks for the input

tom

had another quote for richmond super t10

Came behind sixes and V8s, different ratios etc but same box. Start with the bell housing - that will dictate which box you need as the input shaft lengths are different, and there are a couple of different bolt up patterns.

It would be worth having a good look around at what's available second hand too, you may find some good stuff available with most of the parts you need for a fraction of the brand new price.

I bought a brand new W ratio T10 from Jegs USA, last year for $1650 freight was $400 to Australia. In 3 days it arrived, so someone is making a buck at $3399!

I liked the ratio spread for a street car, it has a good first (2.64 )not two long and great space between 2nd and 3rd (1.75 -1.51). Very close to depress ratios.
