Thanks dirtbag Ill give it a go soon.
And i guess its cold rolled steel ay, 1.2-1.4mm i think

Hi Bart. If you were to make the top section with a 20mm folded lip at the top you could use the shrinker to pull some curve into the panel through the lip. The only problem with that though is it will make the top edge of the quarter curved, and it needs to be straight. If you can get access to an english wheel use a fairly flat bottom roller and put some crown in it, but it wont need a lot. You'll be able to get some shape into the panel when you weld it to the lower half of the panel as the lower half should have the same curve in it. Does that make sense? I don't think I'd use a shot bag and hammer to get the curve in, as it's such a mild curve I think a shot bag will stretch the metal too much by the time it's planished smooth.
It looks like there is only a small curve from top to botom of that top section of the rear guard. I'd probably just bend that by hand over a gas bottle to start. If there isn't much curve front to back, then the english wheel will probably put too much shape in, as it curves the metal both ways. I really do suck at explaining things.
Just give me your LJ and I'll fix the Ponti for you : )

Oh, and regarding wheel tubs, I only had to stretch the bonnevilles tubs 100mm to be able to fit 20x16s, so they're plenty big : )

Thanks, do you use G3NS or G2N Zincanneal G2n being the softer stuff.

Hi Bart sorry I haven't replied mate. As for which one I use I have absolutely no idea. I would assume it's the G3NS as the stuff I use is fairly solid compared to cold rolled. I like it as it means the shapes I put in it are a lot stronger, even though they are harder to make in the first place but you get used to that.

Any updates on this beast?

Hmm i shall do some looking around but i know where a early 1960s pontiac is that may be suitable for spares and not have much rust. It has no front panels and the rear tailights look very similer to this one but i cant be 100% sure its a 63 til i look at it again.
I can ask if the owner want to sell but it was being used as spares and has not been touched in years.
I can get clear pictures of it if your interested.

No worries mate
No real update but i managed to start the old girl, (hasnt been started since 1983) and drove it in the new garage. Unfortunately its going to stay there for a while since renovations on the house will start in a few weeks. May be mid to later in the year when i start work on it i think but i know every time i look at it, it gets me thinking and itching to start asap

I think about making the quarter when i go to bed or at work for christ sake. I would feel quite shitty if i didnt try. Plus i want to do it with my dad, i have views in my head my dad and i will be on either end of the english wheel. :P

The cars not at a wreckers its on a family farm near Tamworth. Even if you dont want anything off it the photos may help in your restoration.

Heres the Pontiac, yep its a 63. Its donated some parts for a chev project and been used as a shed for some old motors and parts for the last 20 years.
If your after parts off it im sure something can be worked out.

White paint under cracked poo brown paint, panel looks ok except the lower part has bit of rust. Tailights would have been ok if some torana owner when they were 10 had not busted them 20 years ago.
