hi just wondering if anybody has the wiring diagram for an L34?
Is it any different because of the twin point dizzy? Getting the gauges checked out & the auto electrician cannot hook it up, rekons he gets half the amount of revs on the tacho and says it will not work coz of the twin point dizzy. I informed him that this was standard on this car so it has to work.

Any ideas? or diagrams?

sorry i know nothing about this stuff

thanks in advance
jero

Do you mean the twin coil dizzy or a twin point.
I used to run a twin point(mallory) on mine years ago and it was wired exactly the same as a normal dizzy. A twin coil I am not sure.

I'm sure the L34 was a twin point/twin coil setup.

My L34 tacho was hooked up to one coil only and read correctly.

If you have a tacho from an SL/R 5000 with its standard dizzy and single coil hooked up to one of your coils it will do what you said happened.

If I run a standard dizzy with one coil the revs read twice as high.

There is an adjustment required to the tacho to read the input correctly for the setup you decide to use. I think there is a switch on the back of some tachos to switch from 6 to 8 cylinders but if you run the twin coil you need the setting for a 4 cylinder.

I asked about it in an instrument repair shop and they knew how to adjust mine for the standard dizzy with one coil.

Hi Guys.

The 2 sets of points & 2 coils in the L34 set-up work like 2 separate 4 cyl systems.

The tacho on an L34 is a 4-cylinder tacho connected to only one of the coils. Unfortunately there is no switch to switch it over. Find a 4-cylinder tacho or get an instrument guy to recalibrate your V8 tacho.

Dr Terry.

are you sure Terry, There is a switch on the back of the Guage cluster to change from 8 to 6 cyl, then there is one more space and I was sure this was for L34/4 cyl?

Have a tacho here - shame it's for an LH. Red line has faded a bit but has the 4/6/8 switch on the back.

V8 and 4 cylinder coils pulse at the same rate. Most timing lights only have a 4 and six setting, you use the 4 gauge for the V8's and it reads fine for RPM, and everything else. Sounds to me like the gauge is switched to 6 on the rear of the instrument cluster, that's the only way I can see you'd get half the revs.

Also I'm fairly sure the standard tacho has a spot for 4 cylinder, but it isn't marked, i.e. below the 6, there is a third switchable position.

A heap of stuff to try there.
